    grand

      And if only the world had heard what he did say

      To the President on that blackened day.

      That statement may never immortal be

      But I wrote it for its own sake.

      A great lump grew in Boats throat I could see,

      And he spoke those words his voice did shake,

      Those words would stab the very soul of me,

      And deep inside I could feel his heart break

      He spoke them in anger for the dead

      And I quote you as near as I can what he said.

      “Mr. President, I lost the best friend I had,

      They call us heroes - but it makes me ill

      Don't people realize how war is so bad,

      Can no one understand how I feel,

      To take that citation would make me sad,

      No paper justifies the ones we kill,

      For we that live and glitter are not gold

      And they that were lost are not forgotten.”

      He was arrested and put into jail

      For the disrespect to the President

      And now for the ending of this tale

      That night his soul was limbo sent.

      His bleeding slashed wrist caused his heart to fail

      And those that found him never knew what was meant,

      From a poem by Robert Burns in his suicide note

      a Jo is a sweetheart in the poem he wrote.

      “John Anderson, my jo, John,

      We clamb the hill theighten;

      And monie a canty day, John,

      We’ve had wi ane anither;

      Now we maun totter down, John,

      And hand in hand we’ll go,

      And sleep thegithter at the foot,

      John Anderson, my jo.”

      THE END
