Weylock gently placed Natalie on the couch and called the cops on Todd’s cell phone. He identified himself as the Familiar, confessed to Todd’s murders, and informed the rattled 911 operator where he’d buried the bodies across the property. He spoke in Todd’s voice, thanks to the demon’s magic. If they analyzed the tape, there would be no doubt about the caller’s identity. All the evidence would confirm that a psycho had come clean.

Once done, Weylock tossed the cell phone aside, unconcerned about leaving any forensic evidence behind. The Hexecutioner didn’t have fingerprints.

Weylock’s gaze turned back to Natalie, knowing his work was done here. The cops would arrive soon. The officers would find Natalie and conclude that Todd had grown a conscience after ten murders and was now on the run.

The cops would never find the bastard.

Nothing of the fiend remained in this world—the demon had devoured him whole.

As an invisible Weylock watched the forensic crew dig up the bodies a few hours later, he tried not to dwell on that moment when he’d given the demon full reign. A Hexecutioner’s job was to punish the guilty—and for this punishment to match their crimes. The restless dead demanded retribution, a single act of violence to make up for many. It needed to be violent, both to provide peace to the dead and to appease the unnatural appetites of the creature whose power the Hexecutioner wielded.

Special Agent Jaxon Weylock would have been revolted.

For the Hexecutioner, it was just another day at the office.

These methods, savage though they might be, made the world a better place.

The Hexecutioner helped the victims move on, and he made sure the victimizers would harm no one again.

Now and then, it took a demon to bring light to a world consumed with darkness. But as Weylock thought about what he’d done tonight, he wondered if there would ever be a place in the light for him.
