He looked at the key, but didn’t reach for it. “Is this what I think it is?”
“My apartment, yes. Ours, if you want, Cain. Somewhere, sooner or later, I’ll have to come home, to debrief and draw a breath. I want you to be there, when I do.” She rested her fingers over their joined hands. “Waiting for me,” she added.
He kissed her, with an intensity which stole her breath and made her body limp. It was only when he pulled his lips from hers that she realized he had pulled her into his lap. His hand was inside her coat and her jacket, nestled against her ribs, between her Glock and her sweater. He stroked gently, his black-eyed gaze steady upon her face. “I’ll wait,” he said, his voice low. “I have every reason to wait forever.”
Agata picked up her keys and wound one of the tracking tiles off the ring. She slid it down the neck of her sweater and into the top of her bra, to settle over her heart.
Cain rested his fingers against the tile, over the top of her sweater.
“Only my body will be half-way around the world, somewhere,” she told him. “My heart will be with you.”

About the Author
