“I’m going to be a father. Truly?” He beamed at her. “You will be the most amazing mother,” he whispered, covering her face in tender kisses as he sat down on the edge of their bed.
“I have no idea how to be a mother, but I suppose I’m going to learn. And if this child takes after their father and can sprout wings at will, we’re going to need to start keeping the doors and windows locked around here.”
He groaned and shook his head. “Wings aren’t what I’m worried about. Garda can’t shift forms until we reach puberty. I’m more concerned the little one is going to take after their mother. According to Ak and Az, you were summoning tiny dragons as playmates by the time you were five!”
“They were fire drakes, not dragons,” she corrected him with a grin. “Dragons are fifty feet long with fangs as big as fence posts. Fire drakes are the size of a kitten, and about as dangerous.”
She wrapped her arms around her lover’s neck and kissed him, joy suffusing every cell of her being and making her feel as if she were filled with sunlight. After years of living in shadow, it was the greatest feeling in the world.
No matter what the future held for them, Gwyneth knew this was where she was always fated to be, standing in the light with her soulbound, fighting for the day they could all finally go home.
After all, whether Vamir wanted to admit it or not, they had a prophecy to fulfill.
