Thanks so much for reading The Only Things You Can Take. (Spoilers ahead if you skipped to this part!) This was one of those books that was really hard to write, as you can probably imagine. First to write about Kade’s death, then to make Sutton and Anchor deal with the loss of Kady once they finally found some happiness and peace. Although each of the characters are fictional, Kady’s diagnosis and symptoms are not. Unfortunately, DIPG is a real disease that children and their families have to live with every day.
Though I haven’t personally met anyone touched by the disease, the stories I’ve read online have broken my heart, and that was why I felt compelled to write this story and do my small part to help spread awareness.
