As they turned left onto the street, Adeline’s phone rang with the special ring tone Anna had set up for Roland and his associates.
She was so pleased at whatever was said to her, she actually slapped her knee and almost shouted her thanks.
“Barry has made it known that his intention is to plead guilty to all charges. He has taken steps to do so without a trial that his victims would have to participate in. He will be in jail for a very long time.”
“Now we have something to celebrate. Good job, girls.”
Carolyn was a bit subdued. “I haven’t really told Suze that I was a part of all of this. She has been walking around in such a state of shock that she really hasn’t questioned anything I’ve said or done. I don’t think I want to dump all of this at her feet right now.”
“We will leave it to you to tell her when the time is right, or not at all.”
“Thank you.”
“So, girls, now that Barry is in prison for the foreseeable future — and then some – how about we go celebrate with the O’Flynns and then we can decide where to go next.”
“I thought we were going to Hawaii.”
“I can do Hawaii. Or Paris. Or didn’t you say, Anna, that you wanted to bring Jordan on a camping trip?”
“Well, yes, I’ve thought about it.”
“What about our trip to Hawaii?”
Anna and Carolyn had discussed it when Adeline was busy talking to Roland last night. They didn’t want to be so far from home if something happened with Adeline’s family. That was a problem that hadn’t yet been resolved.
Carolyn smiled. “We’ll get there, but for now, Hawaii can wait.”
