      Jung Yung Ho

      Who is the victor?

Golden sunlight breaks through the window.

Darkness cowers away like a loser.

While sunlight is yet at its brightest,

Darkness is already creeping towards revenge.

      Fall is falling

      Fall is falling,

      stumbling,

      running away

from the sharpened daggers of the wind.

      Smart phone

Devoted to the Bible of (Post-)Modernism,

we hold enlightenment in the palm of our hands:

      reading news,

      playing games,

      listening to music,

      taking pictures,

      texting,

      whispering to our lovers.

We have all grown fireflies in the palm of our hands:

      feeding it with electricity,

      and with our devoted souls.

      Requiem

      When I play a key

you smile and come to me

      and the heavenly melody—

      I am the pianist.

      When I play another key

      on my cheek you kiss me;

      it is a heavenly melody—

      I am the romanticist.

When I play yet another key

you lean on me and cry endlessly

      because of the heavenly melody—

      I am the comforter.

When I played the wrong key

      you leave me;

      broken melody—

      I am the mourner.

      Last Winter’s Sea

      on the lonely sand

I’m carefully listening to the shattering waves

      that scream as they break

      on my heart

which I lay down as an offering

      nearby the murmuring sea

I hear the sound of teardrops falling

      of whispering towards the lighthouse

where I lay down my memories

near a bottle of cold brandy

      I hear someone’s bitter grief

      whispering over the horizon

I still remember last winter’s sea

      where you lay down

      your heart for me
