In the crafting of this particular story, I had the blessing of consulting with a good friend, Gretchen Hill, who has adopted a sweet boy from China. She was able to share with me many details that helped in the portrayal of life in an orphanage in that country, as well as giving me insights into the process of overseas adoption.
After praying, outlining and months of typing, I handed my manuscript to my dear friend and editor, Nancy Tumbas, who did a complete content edit for me, finding any inconsistencies, suggesting changes in the beginning, and helping me solidify the message of the story. Then she painstakingly edited for spelling, grammar, and other technical errors.
Next, the corrected manuscript was sent to another sweet friend and sister-in-the-Lord, Bonnie VanderPlate. Line-by-line, she proofed it one more time to catch any lingering mistakes.
Meanwhile I sat down with my cover designer and son, Benjamin Hines, as we began the process of designing a cover. Every time we do this, I’m delighted and blessed by the work he is able to produce to catch the eye of readers and give a glimpse into the story, and this book cover was no exception.
Then, my formatter, Daniel Mawhinney at 40 Day Publishing went to work creating the ebook and print book files for publication. With an eye to perfection and consistency, he makes the interior of my books look great!
