But the sun was rising higher in the sky. The shadows were shrinking. Birds sang to one another in the branches of the trees. Mom’s wind chime tinkled happily on the front porch.
I walked into the garage, hoping that I could spend my entire Saturday in bed.
I unlocked the door to the house, stepped inside and—
“Where have you been!?”
Mom.
Dad.
They were both standing there in the kitchen, twin, sick looks painted on their faces.
I sighed. Busted.
And there was nobody left who could save me from this.
