His mother’s body was carried right into the wheels of the train.
She was swept under the first axle, only for her body to be flipped sideways as the next wheels ripped at her. Blood and guts splattered everywhere, spreading pieces of her along the tracks.
David dropped to his knees in the open doorway. He wanted off the train. This would be his last ride.
The tears streaming down his face hit the wooden floor of the boxcar, the salty water leaving dark spots as it soaked into the dry timber.
“If you’d loved me mom, you would have left me in Chicago.”
