“Michael, get her out of there.”
He snapped at me, some of his cold annoyance back in place. This was the Other I was used to. I preferred his mask of indifference. I knew how to fight it. “If I could, I would. If I ever could go there, I would. I told Kendall not to do it. I preferred her dying with you to this eventuality. She listens to me about as well as she listens to anyone.”
“So you are saying what? She stays there till she dies? Then you can get her out.” His silence did not fill me with hope. “Answer me, damn it.”
“No one dies in the shadow dimension. It’s not a place where death is a possibility. Why give anyone a respite from that kind of torture?”
I sunk to the floor. I’d never done so before. Utter and complete desolation made tears stream down my face. I almost never cried. I couldn’t remember the last time. Suddenly, Block was there. My best friend squatted next to me. How long had he been listening? A quick look told me everyone over the age of eighteen had gathered in the kitchen. That was good; I wouldn’t have to explain why all hope had been lost.
“The only thing then”—Chase’s voice shook—“left to do is to kill the Master. He’s trapped here. With all the other shadows who made it through. His defeat is feasible. She left us that gift.”
I didn’t want the common sense of white lights in the darkness. I wanted Kendall.
“If I could find her, would you get her? Would you go to get her Malcolm? If I could send you to her?” Victoria spoke, and I jumped to my feet to listen to her.
Michael interrupted her. “Could you do that?”
“Yes. I can.”
Henry put a hand on her arm. “If you do that, my love, you may never do magic again. The Karma. You might be spent.”
“We never know what the end result will be. Even if does take away my magic, it would be worth it to bring Kendall back.”
In the distance I heard my daughter cry. With Kendall gone, I had to figure out how to feed her. I would not leave Abbi without a mother. I would not let Kendall be taken from her children. Or from me. Or from the world, for that matter.
“I would go if you promise me if I don’t come back, you’ll raise Abigail like your own.”
Victoria let out a small sob. “I’d never let her be alone. She’s my family.”
“I’ll do it.”
The witch nodded once. “It’s going to take a week to get ready. There will be rituals to be done in the meantime.” She meant slaughter. Animals or whatever else she needed. I wasn’t going to question.
“Time moves differently there.” Michael started to fade. “I don’t know how long she’ll have been there. Her body will not have changed. Her soul might have.”
“Then there is no time to lose.”
I’d bring Kendall back, and whatever healing she needed she’d get. She was my wife, my other half. My love. She brought the light to me. Without her, there would be only darkness. No matter how many dimensions I had to travel, I would get to her. I’d always been able to find her. This would not be any different.

About the Author
As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.
I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. I live in Austin Texas where I am determined to eat all the barbecue in town.
I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing. I've been told I'm a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you'll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.
