“I am too,” Johann said. “I hate leaving my mate, even though it’s only a few hours. She worries.”
“I don’t want you to worry about me,” Anders said. He leaned down and kissed the shell of her ear and she shivered.
“I can’t wait to watch you fish. I’ve never seen a bird shifter before.”
“For you, I’ll catch the biggest fish for miles.”
“I can’t wait.”
“Well,” he murmured, drawing her with him into the enclosure so they could escape the cold wind. The familiars were already waiting for them, Osiris giving her a glare for the wind that ruffled his fur. “You might have to wait a little for that, but there are other things you won’t have to wait for when we get home.”
“Now that, I definitely can’t wait for.”
“You heard your queen, Johann,” Anders said. “Let’s get home.”
“Aye, Sire.”
The engine roared as he pushed on the throttle. Hadlee grinned and leaned against Anders. She closed her eyes and smiled to herself. How had a witch come across such profound good luck? She’d survived an attempted murder. Saved her mate from death. Gained a second familiar because she was just that much of a badass.
She should be a superhero.
Witch Girl. Swan Girl. Witch Swan.
Oh! Queen Hadlee the Awesome, Saver of Days.
“You’re grinning, my queen,” Anders said.
“I’m just that happy. And please, call me Hadlee the Awesome.”
His smile made his eyes twinkle in the console light. “Hadlee the Awesome. Holder of my heart.”
“Light of Your Life.”
“Sexiest Female on the Planet.”
“Luckiest. I’m the luckiest, sexiest female on the planet, probably the universe. Because my mate is every bit as awesome as I am.”
“I can’t wait to get you home.”
“Me too.”
“I’m going as fast as I can!” Johann said. “Please don’t grope each other while I’m sitting right here. I can’t plug my ears when I have to drive.”
Hadlee giggled. “We’ll be good.”
“We will?” Anders asked.
“For now. Then we’ll be bad.”
“Now that is the best idea I’ve heard since you suggested we shower together earlier to conserve water.”
“Just wait, Anders. I’m full of great ideas.” The sexiest, most wonderful ideas ever had by any female anywhere. She was going to rock his world in so many ways when they were alone, that the walls would shake.
And then they’d fall asleep snuggled up together in the big bed in the big room in the big mansion, on the island where she’d woken up only days earlier, chained to her sexy hunk of a mate. How fast the time had gone, and how much she cherished the male beside her.
No one had ever held her heart like Anders.
She couldn’t wait to see what the future would bring.
