    A Rhythm of Life

So come with me and pray with me

      In washing, cleansing rain

Lay out thy sins and find within

      A blessing for your pain

      POPCORN HOT DAY

      Hedge cut, rose bush trimmed

Seeds, nuts, water for birds to drink

      Water wings, paddling pool

      ready for dipping

      Strawberries and cream

      fresh from the fridge

      A sweltering night, dripping sweat

      No wind today,

no clouds in a pastel blue sky

      Only smoking barbecue drifts

Bites into burgers and roasted fish

As laughter echoes through searing heat

      Sound is dulled,

      glancing mirage of rain downhill

      Sunlight prickles, reddens lighter skins

      Fluttering grandma’s fan bought 1976

      Concrete popcorn hot,

      ground cracked, parched

Hosepipe ban as rivers run dry

      James Brown rasps

      It’s hot, popcorn hot

      END GAME

      Stained pages are turned

      Charged words from to learn

      So life fritters by

As men toil and men die

      Some fight for a cause

Some have no cause to call

‘Cept to bring world to ruin

By the things they love doing … to you

      FEEL IT

Love me through the pain and sorrow

Love me like there’s no tomorrow

You sense that I’ll be good for you

And you know I feel it too

Kiss away the hurt and shame

Set the river running in the rain

      Whispering our secret names

Off your knees when you’re done praying

Take me through the night, the day

Here is where we need to stay

Chase the darkness through to light

Hold me close to make it right

Feel it, feeling as we do

One on one with you makes two

      WAS LOVE EVER HERE?

      Love, was it love

I gave to you, you gave to me

      Love, was love ever here?

      Impulses to feel, press our flesh;

      You desperate to unload tension,

Me desperate for a little affection -

      Habit forming dependency.

But was it love my darling

That I gave to you, you gave to me

My love, was love ever here?

      Perplexing rushing hormones; instinctive

      Exchange of needs, negotiating feels,

      Bodies overriding what heart pleads.

The hunger that fills with emptiness,

      A wallowing in sensual loneliness.

But was love ever really here my dear, dear,

      Dearest love?

      WORLDLY WIDE

The eye floats in a seething cauldron

      Where aspirations melt and burn

As promises fritter as politic ashes

      Pulverising; robbing food,

      denying shelter

With a compensation of payday loans

      Donating a trespass of debt

Wars simmer as the camel moves through

      the needle’s eye

Simplicity’s anguish for the providence of nature; blighted

      Signs light up the skies

      without heed to alert

The demolition wages on while people

      Grow poorer each ticking moment

      Count the hours

      as poisoned life-forms wither away

To the clamour of this carnivorous onslaught

      Greed builds its austerity

      Begetting sterility: a perishing future

The economy of life hangs in this demented balance

      Wanting ...

      WHAT IS THE EXACT TIME?

      They asked the sun

      They asked the moon

They asked the comets and the stars

      But they all replied:

      ‘Only The Creator knows’

      He told the fig tree

      What? Not the quantum mechanics?

So they asked the fig tree

      Whose answer was ripening

In the here, in the now …

In the knowing and the telling

But the fig tree’s only offering

      Was to bear first fruits

      for harvest time …

      HEARTFELT

Through the maze of a myriad words

      Afloat in this matrix

      A refuge for recounting memories

      Airing restless waves of repression

      Tracing latent desires

      and monolithic pauses

      Till the reactive heart lays

      its instinctive beat

And love repeals denial through a membrane of abstract sensing

Where impulsive rhythm soothes the hurt

      ... We form a conjunction

      SILENT LIGHT

She laid her head in the crook of his neck

      He kissed her forehead

      She began to softly cry

He didn’t speak to ask why

      Simply hugged her close

As her tears trickled down his arm

      She fell asleep

      He fell asleep

They woke to sunlight streaming through

      the window pane

He carried her out to the apple tree

Set her back against its trunk

As the wind blew fragrant through the blossom

With the sweet scent on her breath

      She breathed her last

      in the afternoon shade

The odd ray of light filtering through the branches

He held her hands till they grew cold

Stroked her forehead before letting go

      THE REALM

      We created our own tempo,

      without mass; no trace

      You trail …

      Moving through quantum oceans

      In resonance, illumined in dreams

      Neither life nor death

      can contain this realm

      Where love exists and heals

      We break the code,

      where secrets don’t exist

      Simply one like this,

      as time slips …
