“They are busy killing your friends!”
“I doubt they’ll get the chance.” Frida kept the sword trained on Lady Craven and leaned into the cart. With her free hand, she typed something onto the keypad, as Jools had instructed. “You’ve just lost control.”
The griefer queen eyed the screen and screeched. It read:
/gamemode 1
Frida hit ENTER.
Instantly, the nocturnal noises quieted. The zombie horde spreading over the hillside stopped moving forward and began milling about. Their moans now ended as a question: “Uuuuhh . . . ooohhh?”
Then cheering could be heard all the way from the portals. The zombies had broken off their chase. The cavalry troopers were safe. And the residents of Spike City would not be disturbed this night.
Frida’s sword arm began to shake as she reached in to type again:
/kill
Lady Craven’s gemstone eyes widened. She drew back against the wall of the minecart. But Frida did not complete the command.
She didn’t have to. She had already thrown the griefer’s game into Creative mode . . . and no hostile mobs would seek prey on anyone’s orders.
Frida paused, and then gathered up Ocelot’s reins and walked away from the minecart tracks. Killing Lady Craven here would not eliminate evil in the Overworld. Sooner or later, she’d figure out how to use her cheats to change modes again. She would come back to threaten Survival days and nights. And when she did, Battalion Zero would be there. That was the Overworld Frida and her friends knew and loved.
She touched the tattooed spot on the back of her neck as she picked her way back down the mountain, leading her mare. Surviving was no longer a solo quest and quitting no longer an option. Frida would fight to defend these biomes for everyone—forever, if she had to. Now that she knew why, there’d be no turning back. It was what she’d been born to do.
