SEKHMET
Consort of Ptah. Lioness goddess of Memphis. “Great of Magic". Associated with destruction, but more often in the sense of making way for creation than destruction for destruction's sake. She has been known to cure pestilence as well as to cause it.
SESHAT
“Foremost in the Library". Usually associated as the female counterpart of Djehuti as they are both concerned with measuring and recording. Seen with a seven-pointed star above her head.
SET
George Hart describes him as a “god of chaotic forces who commands both veneration and hostility". In mythology he is depicted as the murderer of his brother Osiris and the antagonist of Horus, and yet in the solar barque he defends Ra against the even greater menace of an attack by Apep, the ultimate enemy of existence. He is the violent and destructive force on earth, but does not threaten the very existence of the universe as does Apep. Sometimes the energy of such a force as Set can be harnessed and redirected. Traditionally he has come to be identified with “evil” and Horus with “good” in the conflict of good and evil. But, as we all know, nothing is as simple as that. He is associated with the red desert regions and the sand-storms, as opposed to the rich black fertile lands beside the river.

Moyra Caldecott was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1927, and moved to London in 1951. She married Oliver Caldecott and raised three children. She has degrees in English and Philosophy and an M.A. in English Literature.
