“I know but it seems like a lifetime ago. I had planned to keep you at arm’s length, never allowing myself to get too close to you because I was worried I wouldn’t be able to let you go if I did. Now I know I was right.”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
“I can’t imagine not holding you in my arms at night as we both drift off to sleep, or not waking next to you each morning. Sharing an office with anyone was not something I’d ever expected to do, but looking up to see you sitting across from me and knowing you care about this company as much as I do is truly special. I love you, Sydney Manor, and I never want to spend a moment without you in it. Will you marry me?”
“Aren’t you supposed to be down on one knee?” She raised an eyebrow at him.
“I wanted to do it right here in the place where I knew I was a goner. Kneeling on the sofa proposing…well, let’s just say that would have been classical but I highly doubt romantic. Though if you’d like I’d get down on one knee and do it the way you always dreamed up.”
“You already have.” She looped her arms around his neck. “All I’ve ever hoped for is that my childhood proposal would come true. Now I guess since we’ve each asked each other, we can finally live happily ever after.”
“Is that a yes?” He slipped his hand into the pocket of his pants and pulled out a small box. Moments later, he had a beautiful rose gold engagement ring in his hand. The main diamond that had to be more than a carat was expertly carved into a beautiful princess cut, with two smaller diamonds on each side to match.
“Yes, Coal Tanner, I will marry you.” She watched as he slid the ring on her finger. “I’m going to make you the happiest man alive.”
“You already have.” Sealing the proposal, he tangled his hand into her hair and drew her in for a kiss. “I love you, Syd.” His breath brushed along her skin before he closed the small distance between them and claimed her lips.
About the Author
Born and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, Marissa Dobson now resides about an hour from Washington, D.C. She’s a lady who likes to keep busy, and is always busy doing something. With two different college degrees, she believes you’re never done learning.
Being the first daughter to an avid reader, this gave her the advantage of learning to read at a young age. Since learning to read she has always had her nose in a book. It wasn't until she was a teenager that she started writing down the stories she came up with.
Marissa is blessed with a wonderful supportive husband, Thomas. He’s her other half and allows her to stay home and pursue her writing. He puts up with all her quirks and listens to her brainstorm in the middle of the night.
Her writing buddy Pup Cameron, a cocker spaniel, who is always around to listen to her bounce ideas off him. He might not be able to answer, but he’s helpful in his own ways.
