He pulled the ring from between his teeth and licked his lips. “You really don’t know what you’re missing. That cognac is worth every penny.”
“Devlin Law!”
Slipping to one knee, he took her left hand in his and turned it over, kissing her wrist the same way he did their first night together.
“The hearings are finally over, and both Senator March and Cliff Harmon are behind bars for the rest of their lives. The list Ivan gave you is dismantling that god-awful trafficking ring from the ground up. I couldn’t have done any of this without you. We took on the world together, Jessica, and I’m asking you now if you’d like to take on the rest of our lives the same way. Together. Will you marry me, Jessica Moiré Banning?”
“Yes!” she croaked, despite her throat tight with tears.
He slid the gorgeous platinum solitaire onto the third finger of her left hand and then kissed her palm before sweeping her off her feet and into his arms.
Kissing her once, he put her down gently, but she kept her arms tight around his neck.
“I thought you wanted to watch the colors leap rockets across the sky?” he asked.
Pulling him toward the sofa, she pushed him onto the plush cushions and straddled his lap. “I want a different kind of rocket, right now. One only you can give.”
He slid his hand behind her head and pulled her mouth to his. “Challenge accepted.”
