  Most invaluable to the creation of this text was the authorized biography Relief to Royalty: The Story of James J. Braddock, World’s Heavyweight Champion by Lud (real name Ludwig Shabazian), sports editor for the Hudson Dispatch of Union City, New Jersey. Published in 1936 with a foreword by Damon Runyon, the book is currently out of print.

  About the Author

  MARC CERASINI resides in Queens, New York, just a few blocks from the site of the old Madison Square Garden Bowl, where James J. Braddock won his world heavyweight title. He is the coauthor, under pennames with his wife, Alice Alfonsi, of the number-one and number-two Independent Mystery Booksellers Association bestsellers On What Grounds and Through the Grinder, as well as the IMBA bestseller The Ghost and Mrs. McClure. Under his own name, Marc Cerasini has also co-authored 24: The House Special Subcommittee Investigation of CTU, based on the Emmy Award-winning television show “24.”
