“I was so scared,” she whimpered, clinging to him. “I’ve never been in a situation anything like that before. I didn’t know what to do or what was going to happen.”
“You handled it perfectly,” Colton interrupted her. “I’m so damn proud of you.”
“You handled it perfectly,” Morgan corrected him. “I was a complete and total mess. I couldn’t even think straight, I just panicked and called you.”
“I’m sorry about everything,” Colton said, pulling back to meet her gaze. He reached out and wiped a stray tear from her cheek, hating that she was upset. “I should’ve given you a chance to explain or sat down and talked things over with you. I’ll regret for the rest of my life telling you to leave.”
“I wanted to tell you,” she whispered. “From the very beginning—I just knew you wouldn’t see me the same way, and I liked you. It was no excuse, but I didn’t think anything would come of it, of us,” she hastily added.
“I know. And you’re right. I would’ve stayed out in the garage and that would’ve been the end of it. I would’ve missed out on knowing you, on loving you.”
Her breath caught, and he reached out and cupped her cheek gently. “I love you,” he said in a low voice.
‘I love you, too. It’s crazy and fast and hard to believe, but I think I loved you from the very first night we spent together.”
Colton briefly glanced at her bedroom door as he heard the front door shut. “I guess Jake just left for a while.”
“Yeah, I think he wanted to give us some space for a few minutes.”
Colton chuckled. “I’m not leaving. Jake can crash at my place if he needs to.”
“He’s fine with us,” Morgan assured him. “And I want you to stay with me.”
“Be mine tonight, sweetheart,” he murmured, his lips brushing against her ear. She shivered against him but rolled onto her back, gazing up into his eyes.
“I need you, Colton,” she whispered.
“Let me hold you first and make sure that you’re really okay, and then I’m going to show you just how much I need you.”
“That sounds perfect to me.”
