“Husband,” she murmurs, leaning in to kiss me again. “What happens now?”
I grin. “Now?” I nuzzle her neck, my hands teasing over her.
“Now, it’s the rest of our lives, together.”
She bites her lip, her eyes darting over my face.
“Where did you come from, again?”
I grin. “I was the man who stole you away from your first wedding, in case you forgot.”
She giggles. “Was it me you were truly after? Or was I just a bonus for the boat?”
“Oh, the boat was my first love, but—”
I chuckle as she playfully slaps my chest, pulling her in and kissing her deeply.
“I’m the man who’s going to keep you, and love you, for the rest of our lives.”
She blushes, biting at her lip as she arches a brow at me.
I grin. “Not bad for a pirate, huh?”
“Not bad at all,” she murmurs as she leans in. “Even for a dirty scoundrel like you.”
“C’mere, princess,” I groan as our lips sear together.
The sun rises, the day’s begun. But everything else can wait. Right now, it’s just me and her.
…And that’s all I need.
EPILOGUE

SOMETIMES, love finds its way to you in the most unlikely ways. Or it’s found in the most unlikely places. And sometimes, with the most unlikely people.
…Well, at least that’s my experience with it.
When he first took me away from marrying Lord Carlson, I thought I was out of the proverbial frying pan and into the fire. But as it turns out, that fire was exactly what I needed. It was that fire that stripped away my reservations, and it was that same fire that lit the spark inside of me.
At first, in the days after our wedding, there was a fair amount of turmoil. There was talk of war, and lords of the Highlands picking sides, though most allied themselves with Malcolm over Carlson. But trouble was certainly brewing. Add to that the multiple sightings of the most feared Viking marauder alive up and down the coast, and it felt like a powder-keg ready explode.
To his credit, it may actually have been my father who stopped the whole thing from blowing over. To be fair, it was most certainly a business decision rather than one of the heart, but he rescinded his offer to Carlson of my hand in marriage. A moot point in a sense, seeing as I was already married, to another man, at that point. But it was a gesture none the less, and with it came the end of the buildup of “sides.”
Apparently, Carlson launching an attack with a paid army on another lord’s castle was even worse for my father’s business interests than my marrying Malcolm was. So, no—it wasn’t like my father suddenly grew a heart. But if his business mindset stopped a war, so be it.
Malcolm insists that he would have “beaten the coward” out of Carlson anyways, but that’s beside the point.
So, there was peace. Well, at least for a small time that is, until all of the drama surrounding Cat. And then the absolute scandal with Rhona that may or may not have landed answers to the big question of why it was that a savage Norse marauder seemed to have saved Carrick Castle the night of my marriage to Malcolm.
…Rhona, by the way, who was oddly quiet and flushed after Carlson’s attack that night. Rhona with the oddly runeic-looking necklace which had appeared from nowhere that same night she did her damnedest to keep hidden out of sight.
But those are their stories, to be told in their own words.
As for me? Well as I said, love comes in the oddest of ways, and from place you never saw it coming sometimes. And this “princess” found it with the pirate scoundrel who stole her away. She found it in the arms of the rogue who told her she’d be his on the very day she was to marry another.
And damn do I love him for that.
Love breaks the rules. Love steals you away. And love is all we need.
