Beck twisted his head and rested his cheek on Morgan’s head.

      “We did it.”

Beck held his gaze, understanding the depth of his brother’s emotions without them being spoken. A nightmare had started on their eighteenth birthday and ended with the defeat of Bartholomew. Beck looked back at all that had happened with both regret and appreciation for what they’d gone through. He had never thought to ask his mother if a Master or Mistress of Light or Dark had to go through a separate trial, but the past few months sure felt like they had.

There had been moments when he thought Decker would kill him and others when he expected his inability to be a Master to condemn them all. Summer’s appearance and incredible magick was followed by Morgan’s …

      “Yeah, we did,” he murmured.

      Chapter Twenty Seven

Morgan watched the emotional exchange between the brothers, touched by it. Summer smiled at her, and she smiled back. There was a lot to catch up on, a lot to tell her mother and Connor, a lot left to learn about being a Light witchling and helping Beck.

And there was her new family, to include Nora. Warmth bloomed within her, and she rested her head against Beck’s shoulder. She had arrived at the witchling boarding school with no hope of fitting in and every intention of running away. She never dreamt her life would take this turn, but she was grateful for it.

“Mom’s gonna shit when we tell her she’s officially old now and a grandma,” Decker said, amused.

“We’ll have to warn Nora never to piss off that grandparent,” Beck added.

Morgan smiled. “Hey, can we talk for a minute?” she asked, peering up at him.

“Sure. You okay?” Beck met her gaze. While exhausted, he remained the most handsome person she’d ever seen.

      “Yeah.”

Beck took her hand, and she led him away, to a quiet area away from everyone. Her fire danced out of nervousness and excitement. She faced him and for a moment, wasn’t able to form a single word when she realized she was looking up at the best man in the world, who just so happened to be hers.

“I just wanted to thank you for everything you’ve done for me,” she started.

“Thank you, Morgan. Nora probably wouldn’t be alive without you.”

“You would’ve found a way. You’re the most incredible person I know, Beck.”

Beck cupped her cheek in one hand and kissed her forehead.

“And …” Her fire surged. “I love you, Beck.”

“Yeah, I figured that out.” His eyes twinkled.

She flushed. “Well, now you know for sure!”

      Beck laughed.

Morgan rolled her eyes at him, thrilled at the prospect of having a life with him, even if she didn’t remotely feel like she deserved it.

“You sure you’re okay with all this? I mean … it’s going to be a lot,” he said, a little worried.

“Nothing we can’t handle.” She took his hand. “I’m serious, Beck. I’ll take care of you.”

“And I’ll take care of you.”

“Okay. I think I can live with that.”

      “Your mom’s in town, right?”

      She nodded.

“Have her go to the clubhouse for dinner. I’ll probably be here all night, but you can join her.”

“I’m staying with you,” she replied stubbornly. “Always. When you’re ready to leave, we can meet my mom. I already met yours. It was a little awkward.”

“Oh, god. My mom scares the hell out of people.”

“I like that about her,” Morgan admitted.

Beck laughed and hugged her. “I’m so glad you’re alive. Here. Whatever.”

“Me, too.” She squeezed him back. “We’ll do this and everything else together.”

      “Yeah, we will.”

Morgan closed her eyes and listened to his strong, steady heartbeat. She had a home, a family, a new life.

She was the luckiest girl in the world.

“Beck. Sorry to interrupt,” Decker said, approaching. “Amber called in a panic. I guess there are a few remaining Dark witchlings on the prowl around the school and clubhouse, scaring people. Mom offered to take care of it, but I told her we would.”

      Beck hesitated.

“I’ll stay here with Summer, Noah and Biji,” Morgan said. “If anything happens, I’ll text.”

“Thanks. We’ll be fast.” He stepped away.

      “Hey. Morgan.”

      She looked towards Decker.

“Welcome to the family,” he said. “Sorry for being a dick.”

She laughed, and Beck grinned. “It’s okay, Decker. I understand,” she said. The simple words carried far more weight coming from him than if they came from anyone else. “Go. We’ll all be fine.”

“Duty calls.” Beck’s tender smile filled her with happiness. “I love you, too, Morgan, in case you hadn’t figured it out yet.”

      “I know.”

He winked, and the twin Masters of Light and Dark disappeared in a combination of white and black fog.

Morgan waited until the last small tendril of their magick cleared from the hallway before she rejoined the others.

      “What’s next?” Biji asked.

“Peace and quiet, I hope,” Summer replied. “And for you?”

Biji glanced at Noah, who was speaking with the doctors a few feet away. “We have some things to work out, but …” she grinned. “I’m telling my parents to take Sanjay home with them, because I’m giving Noah a shot.”

Morgan smiled, sensing the two witchlings were well matched. She couldn’t wait to tell her mother and brother about Beck. Her phone vibrated, and she checked it quickly.

I’m so lucky to have you, Beck had texted.

Morgan grinned as she typed a response. Damn right you are.
