“I know,” I said with a smile and kissed him back, lazily, languidly, in a way that showed him I was confident in our feelings for each other.

Eventually he pulled away and sat back on his heels.

I slithered down Aimery and rested my head on his chest. His cock was still semi-hard.

“Aimery,” Ryle said. “I found this on the other side of the island, on some cactus spikes over near that wrecked fishing boat.”

With a sigh Aimery lifted his head from the pillow. “What?”

“This.” Ryle held up the triangle-shaped scrap of cloth. It had jagged edges on two sides and was smooth on the other. “It wasn’t there the other day when I went round.”

“Shit.” Aimery sat with a sharp jolt, shifting me out of the way as he did so. “Why didn’t you show me this as soon as you came back?”

Ryle frowned. “You were otherwise engaged.”

Aimery snatched if from Ryle’s hand and peered closely at the smooth edge. “See this?” he said, thrusting it at Ryle.

Ryle took it and peered closely. “Oh fuck, I didn’t notice that.”

“She could be here,” Aimery’s voice was tense and he darted his gaze around the decking. “Right now, watching us.”

“I haven’t had any visions to suggest that she is,” Ryle said, shaking his head.

“She could have dipped beneath your radar, you know what she’s like for trickery.”

“Who is? Who could be here?” I asked, panic building within me. Their tones and expressions didn’t bode well. “What is that bit of rag?”

“It’s not a rag,” Aimery said, his jaw setting tight. “It’s a piece of Elfrida’s cape.”

Just her name sent fear shooting into my veins. There were no doubts in my mind that she would drink me dry given half a chance. “Elfrida’s? How do you know? It could just be rubbish blown in on the breeze, a ratty bit like that.”

“See this?” Ryle said, holding it toward me. “This tiny symbol at the bottom, just above the row of stitching.”

I could, just, it was like a crescent moon in a circle, stamped every two inches or so. “And?”

      “And it’s her family crest.”

“So it might not be her. It could be someone else in her family.”

“No,” Aimery said, standing and reaching for his clothes. “Elfrida has no family, no one to love; it is what makes her so damn dangerous.” He pulled on his shorts. “We have to leave, now. Find somewhere else to stay.”

“Really?” I asked. “Is she that much of a threat to us?”

“Not to us,” Ryle said, pulling on his swim trunks. “To you, which means we won’t take any risks.” He cupped my chin. “Go pack, baby. We’re going on our travels a little earlier than planned.”

“But don’t worry,” Aimery said. “We’ll keep you safe.”

“We’ll always keep you safe,” Ryle added. “Forever, and that’s a promise.”

      About Lily Harlem

Lily Harlem is a multi-published, award winning author of contemporary erotic romance. She lives in the UK with her husband and a bunch of animals, all rescued, and loves to spend her days immersed in imagination.

Her books are a mixture of full length novels and short stories, some are one offs, some are sequels or part of a series (all can be enjoyed as stand-alone reads). What they each have in common are colourful characters travelling on everyone’s favourite journey — falling in love. If the story isn’t deliciously romantic and down and dirty sexy, it won’t be written, at least not by Lily. So with the bedroom door left well and truly open you are warned to hang on for a steamy, sensual ride - or rides as the case might be!

Lily welcomes comments from readers. You can find her website and email addresses on her author bio page at www.ellorascave.com.
