“Hey,” Ryder says, “isn’t this that song you like? The one from Dirty Dancing?”
I just grin in reply. “You want to dance?”
He stands and reaches a hand out to me. I take it, rising to my feet. I can’t help but glance down at my ring as I do so, admiring it yet again. “This is way better than the caramel cake, by the way. Like, a zillion times better. Just sayin’.”
“You sure? Because the caramel cake is pretty amazing. I mean, it is my favorite.”
“Yeah, and I just got you chocolate. Now I feel so lame.”
“Hey, now you’ve gone and ruined the surprise,” he says.
I waggle my brows suggestively. “Who knows what I’m going to do with the chocolate.”
He stops dead in his tracks. “Wait, what kind of chocolate are we talking about?”
“Guess you’ll just have to wait and find out.” I give him a saucy wink, even though it’s just a regular chocolate bar.
“Hmm, my mama warned me about girls like you.”
“Oh, yeah? What’d she say?”
“That I should marry you,” he says with a grin. “And just watch, someday I will.”
