Another sigh echoed in my ear. Then Dad grumbled something incoherent. “I think you’re making a mistake, but it’s yours to make.”
Wow. He was killing it with the pep talk. As far as I was concerned, this conversation was over.
“This phone call is going nowhere fast,” I said. “I’ll talk to you later.”
“When are you coming home?”
I looked at Darius again, finding comfort in his smile. God, he was a beautiful man. My father would never see that, though. He was focused on the rumors and negative publicity. I had to change the way the world looked at Darius.
“I don’t know when I’ll return to Music Haven, but it won’t be anytime soon. I’m not giving up on my clients.”
“Amelia Shae Brooks, I didn’t raise you to be disrespectful.”
“I know, but you didn’t raise a quitter either. Talk to you later.”
The call ended, even though my dad continued to talk. One flip of a switch and my phone went silent. If my father kept pushing me, I’d avoid all of his calls. Until he treated me like an adult capable of making sound decisions, I had nothing else to say to him.
He could fight me on this all he wanted. I knew my grandfather had my back. At the end of the day, it was all that mattered.
I wasn’t giving up on Rebel Stone, or Darius, for that matter. Not without a fight.
