      About the author

‘The Boodles which became Hoo Ha House’

Jo is the original writer – not one of those who followed – of the late 70s children’s cult TV series ‘Chorlton and the Wheelies’ and ‘Jamie and the Magic Torch’ and fans still seek out her autograph today. But she left all this behind when she felt compelled to save a children’s day nursery. Happily she did and she’s never looked back.

Jo created Boodle Books which were taken up by Thurman Publishing of ‘Mr Men’ fame. She set up an animation company and produced ‘The Raggy Dolls’.

Boodles were re-launched in 2004 as Hoo Ha House but market forces proved against them. However, she’s now reclaimed the rights and can write with a wicked free hand. The Hoo Ha House series runs to 26 titles covering A-Z of the alphabet.

Jo has done away with the politically correct police and no longer has to edit by committee. Instead, the books are for adults to enjoy and for children to enjoy too being a true representation of the author’s undiluted work.

Boodle Books were first published in the 80s with the original artwork made available electronically thanks to the request of a fan who wanted to be able to share her favourite bedtime story with her daughter.

      Samuel’s great day had arrived.

At exactly eight o’clock he sat on the breakfast plate with his friends Tom and Toe the tomatoes, Braden the bacon, Engle the egg and Fred the fried bread.

It was the day they’d been waiting for, the day they’d been made for, and they all got rather excited.

I bet I’m liked the best!” boasted Engle the egg, and Fred the friend bread thought of a joke.

“What did the bacon say to the egg?” asked Fred.

      Nobody knew.

“Lean over and tell us a yoke!” he replied.

At first, Samuel didn’t get it. And then he did. “Oh, lean like bacon and yoke like joke,” he laughed, and he laughed so much he fell off the plate.

And bounced a few times on the floor!

“Oh dear!” cried everyone as they peered over the plate. “Quick, you’d better get back.”

      “How?” wailed Samuel.

      “Bounce,” they all replied.

So Samuel bounced. Not very well at first, but then he got better and better.

Boing! Boing! Boing! he went and bounced high in the air.

And landed head first in the butter. Splosh!

“Oh!” Samuel said, slipping and sliding around.

And he slipped and slithered until – Whoops! – he slipped and landed on the floor again.

      Boing! And everybody laughed.

      Samuel tried again.
