Music playing? Great.
The first question you might be wondering is whether this novel was influenced by the COVID-19 virus, as well as the protests spurred by the death of George Floyd. After all, this is a novel about a black man fighting white supremacists after a virus wiped out a large part of the human race. While I finished the novel two months into lockdown, and a month after the protests began, I started writing long before both. The subject matter in this novel has been weighing on me for a long time, as it does most people watching the news for the past few years. White supremacy is a virus, as deadly as COVID, and I look forward to a future where we’ve all be vaccinated against it.
What about the Europhids? Was I planning to bring the gelatinous wangs from Beneath back some day? Yes…and no. I’ve always wanted to revisit the Europhids, but I never felt I had a good concept to bring them back. When I was writing the scene with the seductive flesh-eating bacteria, my description of them brought the Europhids front and center in my mind. And…they fit. In fact, it was like I’d been writing the novel for them, without even…

Even details like Beatrice’s red eyes were there before I consciously thought of using the Europhids!
And now, the big questions for you long time readers. Why is Winnie here? She appeared in Flux, too. She mentions going to Boston. That’s where Tribe takes place. And Tether! And what’s up with Cowboy?! Is this the start of a crossover?
Maybe. I’m laying down the groundwork for a potential crossover, yes. It would involve characters from Exo-Hunter, The Others, Flux, Tribe, and Tether. And yes…Cowboy. Because: Nazis. Can’t leave him out! BUT, as always, it depends on sales of Exo-Hunter—whose characters will be central to the story. So, if you want that to happen, or you want to see a sequel to Exo-Hunter, be sure to post reviews on Audible, Amazon, and Goodreads. Posting reviews not only lets people know you enjoyed the book, but it also helps trigger recommendation algorithms that suggest books to people who have not yet read the novel. This is the primary method for marketing books, and the power is all yours.
