“Come on over here.” A tingle of awareness pinged through him as he took her hand and pulled her to a picnic table. Merely being with P. J. doing something as simple as feeding ducks was thrilling.
“Now what?” she asked, her bright eyes dancing with anticipation.
Kyle chuckled. “Hold your horses, I’m getting to it.”
Kyle reached into his pocket and unfolded a glossy paper that he slid over to her.
She looked at it. “Oh, wow. It’s the beach resort in Fiji.”
“Uh huh, the one with the bungalows that stand over the water.”
“It’s beautiful,” she murmured.
He flipped over the paper. Stapled to the back was a receipt. “I have to go there in three months.”
Her eyes widened. “Really? A business trip to Fiji? I’m so jealous!”
He reached into his pocket again. This time he pulled out an airline ticket and showed it to her.
“Show off,” she pouted.
A grin ruffled his lips. “Wait,” he said dramatically, pulling out another. This one had her name on it.
She laughed in surprise. “Kyle! No way! This is fantastic! My dream come true,” she uttered, her eyes glowing. “I hope you got separate bungalows.” Her cheeks reddened as she glanced at him. “I mean, since we’re not married.”
His jaw dropped as he rubbed his neck. “Oh, man. I didn’t even think about that.” He shook his head. “It was hard enough to get the one bungalow. These things book up so far in advance. I’ll have to call my travel agent and see what I can work out.” His voice trailed off.
“It would be great if you could work something out.” She picked up the paper again and studied it. She was so mesmerized by the glass-floored bungalow looking down into the crystal blue water that she didn’t notice when Kyle slid off the picnic bench and got down on one knee. Out of the corner of his eye, Kyle saw a dog run full speed into the lake and rouse up the ducks that quacked loudly in protest. He swallowed, the hammering of his pulse in his ears drowning out all else. “I think I might have a solution to our dilemma.”
She looked at him, blinking fast, as if just now realizing what he was up to.
“Priscilla June,” he began as he took her hands in his. “I want you to go to Fiji with me. I want you to live in Alabama with me.” Tears moistened his eyes. “I want you to go through the rest of my life with me.” He paused gazing into her mesmerizing eyes. “I want you to go through forever with me.” He let go of her hands long enough to reach in his pocket and pull out a ring, holding it up to her. “Will you be my wife?”
In that moment, time stopped. There were no passing cars. No evening frogs chirping in the trees. No dogs or disgruntled ducks quacking in the lake. It was as if the entire city and all of nature held its breath, waiting for her response.
Laughter pealed in P. J.’s throat as she threw her arms around Kyle’s neck. “Yes, yes, oh yes!”
“Our forever starts now,” he proclaimed joyously as the rest of the world came back to life. Kyle once again heard the sounds around them. Tree frogs sang out their congratulations. Noisy ducks shared the news that Kyle and P. J. were engaged to be married.
In the amber glow of encroaching evening, the world rejoiced with them.

About the Authors
Jennifer loves reading and writing clean romance. She believes that happily ever after is not just for stories. Jennifer enjoys interior design, rollerblading, clogging, jogging, and chocolate. In Jennifer’s opinion there are few ills that can’t be solved with a warm brownie and scoop of vanilla-bean ice cream.
Jennifer grew up in rural Alabama and loved living in a town where “everybody knows everybody.” Her love for writing began as a young teenager when she wrote stories for her high school English teacher to critique.
Jennifer has BA in English and Social Sciences from Brigham Young University where she served as Miss BYU Hawaii. Before becoming an author, she worked as the owner and editor of a monthly newspaper named The Senior Times.
Craig Depew was born in Edmonton, Alberta. His family moved frequently while he was growing each time his dad earned a job promotion. He lived in much of the eastern half of the United States and Canada and after high school lived in Israel, Japan and Grenada. He went to college at BYU and graduated from medical school at Texas Tech. He spent the first half of his medical career outside Atlanta, GA, and then three more years in Statesboro before moving his practice to the Rocky Mountains of Utah, where he continues seeing patients.
In his writing he draws on the places he's lived and visited, people he's known, and news stories that readers will recognize in his work. He began working on his first novel, Missing, Presumed Dead, in 2000 and finished it about three years later. His second novel, Weightless, won Best in Show at the 2013 League of Utah Writers Creative Writing Competition and his third, Transparent, won Honorable Mention in the same contest.
