“I’m glad. If you want to stay behind when I set out for the Free Cities, I understand.”
Brigid shook her head. “I told you before, I’m with you to the end. We found my parents, now we need to find yours.”
Most of his tension faded. Yaz hadn’t realized how much he’d feared Brigid quitting on him.
“When will we leave?” Brigid asked.
“I’m not sure. I want to make sure everyone’s okay and I want to be here for the others’ funerals. At least a week I’d say. Plus, I’m hoping I can find someone familiar with the Free Cities who can tell me the best route.”
There was certain to be more to it than that. They’d be traveling in the dead of winter. Special supplies and heavy furs would be required. Still, there was no way he could wait for spring. His parents might be dead by then.
No, as soon as he could get what they’d need, he was going north. If his father wasn’t with the other dragonriders, hopefully one of them knew where he was.
If not, Yaz didn’t know what he was going to do.
