“Who did this to you?” I asked.
Professor Jones shook her head. “I can remember everything that I did, I can remember a voice whispering in the back of my head telling me to do things, but I can’t remember what happened to put me under that control.”
“Do you know anything about Stacy?” I asked.
Professor Jones opened her mouth as though she was going to say something, held it open for a moment as though she was desperately trying to say something, even started to cough as though that was somehow going to get the words out, but nothing. Finally she shook her head, a frown on her face and tears in her eyes from the coughing fit.
“I don’t know,” she said. “I remember capturing her and your professor, but I don’t remember anything about who I gave them too.”
I sighed. Great. I was hoping when I confronted her that I’d be able to figure out exactly where the hell Stacy was. Of course it was good that Professor Arnold still seemed to be alive despite what she’d said while delivering her lecture earlier in the day. I suppose I’d have to rescue him as well. Once I figured out where the hell he was.

“What about everyone under the control of your magic?” I asked.
Professor Jones shook her head again. “I don’t know. I’m assuming the spell was broken when you broke the spell on me, but I just don’t know. I only dabbled in ancient magic before I had the…”
She put a hand to her forehead as though she was in pain and closed her eyes. She shook her head, but didn’t say anything. She looked back up at me.
“I’m so sorry,” she said. “It seems I have a block when it comes to anything having to do with the person who…”
She cut off whatever she was going to say and shook her head again. I sighed. It looked like whoever did this to her covered their tracks pretty well.
“We should probably get out of here,” Felicia said.
I turned and saw her standing over my shoulder. I smiled. “Still paranoid?”
“Paranoid? It turns out I was right, if you’ll remember, and if she was really under a spell and you just broke it then whoever set the spell is going to be very interested in tracking you down. The best place to be five minutes ago is not here.”
“Probably a good idea,” I said.
“How far did your power extend while you were in there?” Alexis asked.
“Far enough to affect the whole building, it would seem,” Felicia said.
I rolled my eyes. I just hoped that the entire campus wasn’t going to be like this. As powerful as a goddess indeed.
