    Jitterbug Perfume

      Tom Robbins
     Jitterbug Perfume

Jitterbug Perfume is an epic. Which is to say, it begins in the forests of ancient Bohemia and doesn’t conclude until nine o’clock tonight (Paris time). It is a saga, as well. A saga must have a hero, and the hero of this one is a janitor with a missing bottle. The bottle is blue, very, very old, and embossed with the image of a goat-horned god. If the liquid in the bottle actually is the secret essence of the universe, as some folks seem to think, it had better be discovered soon because it is leaking and there is only a drop or two left. From the Trade Paperback edition.

    Gump and Co.

      Winston Groom
     Gump and Co.

This sequel to FORREST GUMP follows the protagonist of that book on his adventures in the 1980s. As in is predecessor, Gump manages to be present at momentous events; his impressions of them, leavened by his naivete, make up this book. Forrest Gump captured our hearts in the #1 New York Times bestselling novel Forrest Gump, and in the blockbuster film, winner of six Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor. Now he returns in the long-awaited sequel to the book hailed by Larry King as "the funniest novel I have ever read." A little older, and wiser in his unique way, Forrest is still running -- this time straight into the age of greed and instant gratification known as the 1980s.Whenever I really get stumped, I go visit Jenny's grave. She tells me she's always rooting for me. The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has gone bust and now Forrest is flat broke, sweeping floors in a New Orleans strip joint, when a fresh opportunity to play championship football puts him back in the limelight -- and in the money. But fate turns fickle again, and he's soon out on the road selling phony encyclopedias and trying to raise his son, little Forrest, who needs his father more than ever. Forrest's remarkable, touching, and utterly comic odyssey has just begun: in store for him is an explosive attempt at hog farming; his own dubious recipe for adding life to New Coke; an encounter with Oliver North of the Iran-Contra affair; and a chance yet again to unwittingly twist the nose of history.

Adam And Streve -- In the Beginning

      Kaysoon Khoo
Adam And Streve -- In the Beginning

The word is out. Another Dead Sea Scroll has been unearthed. And this one says the two mortals who first walked the earth were not a man and a woman, but two DUDES! Here's the account of how they met, fell in love, committed the grievous sin of disobedience (not concupiscence) and fell from from grace. Like they say, reading is believing ...The venue is, as in the older versions, a garden. Two young men are having a chat in that lovely spot. The one who is slightly older is Adam, the other, Steve. They have just met but already love is in the air. Which is hardly surprising since there is hardly anything else to do in this place except fall in love and breathe fresh air -- and of course partake in a particular pastime that even the dumb beasts are particularly fond of. But Adam and Steve don't get to live happily ever after the way Hans Christian Andersen would probably have wanted it if he'd written the tale. A third party comes into the picture. He's quite different from the other two, being half-man and half-snake, with quite a devilish disposition. He manages to seduce Steve into believing that if the other ate a certain forbidden forbidden fruit (and made Adam do the same), the two would turn into supermen! The fruit was plucked, chomped and digested but those two didn't turn into demi or even quasi-gods. Instead all hell breaks loose when the Big Boss arrives on the scene and discovers he has been DISOBEYED!You think you know the tale but rest assured you've never heard it told this way before. Enjoy!

      Piers Anthony
     Air Apparent

Wira is wild with worry. Her beloved husband, Hugo, has suddenly disappeared—and on the same night that they had planned to start a family. Could he have gotten cold feet—or has something more sinister happened to him? And what is worse, there is a strange, seemingly lifeless body in his place! To unravel the riddle of Hugo’s vanishment, Wira asks her father-in-law, the Good Magician Humfrey, to seek the solution in the fabled Book of Answers, only to discover that the pages of that magical tome are hopelessly scrambled, leaving only a few vague clues behind. Though gifted with the magical talent of Sensitivity, Wira is also sightless, making it difficult for her to search for her mate alone. Desperate, she enlists the services of a young girl named Debra, who has come as a querent to the Magician’s castle seeking a cure for an annoying curse that causes men to have unworthy thoughts about her. In exchange for Wira’s help in lifting the bane, Debra agrees to be transformed into the shape of a buxom, winged centaur, acting as Wira’s escort and her eyes. Meanwhile, far across the enchanted land of Xanth, Hugo is having troubles of his own, suddenly finding himself imprisoned in the dungeon of Castle Maidragon. The renegade rogue known as the Random Factor has used his mysterious powers to swap places with Hugo and gain his freedom. Hugo’s only hope of escape lies in the claws of a lovesick fruit bat named Bathos who can change bodies with others at will. As these two star-crossed soul mates set out to find each other, their separate quests become curiously intertwined with several of Xanth’s most unusual denizens, including Nimbus, a numinous boy with a mysterious heritage; Happy and Fray, two tempestuous cloud creatures from a rarified realm; and Ilene, the youngest daughter of the Magician Trent and the Sorceress Iris, whose magical gift is the power to make illusions real. Their journeys lead them through realms of danger and desire, intrigue and astonishment—from the High Castle of the Air King and the Hidden Village of the voracious vixens known as Vila to an infinitesimal planetoid at the farthest end of space and time—only to discover they are players in a much greater game older even than Xanth itself.
