     Today's Edition

Greetings, citizen, and welcome to the Bunker! An underground, egalitarian dreamland, its people work diligently, eat slop, and watch the tube.Traitors are bent on destroying this heavenly utopia. Fortunately, Control has instituted a regime of security clearances to promote the most trustworthy and enlist their aid against the rising terrorist threat. There's absolutely nothing to worry about.Greetings, citizen. Your interest in Today's Edition has been noted by the authorities. By electing to access illegal, detrimental and highly subversive material, you have identified yourself as a traitor. Please turn yourself in to your Homeland Security neighborhood substation. Alternately, you may choose to stay where you are, and someone will be by to detain you shortly.Today's Edition does not exist. It has never existed. Rumors of a popular e-zine created by the Human Resources conglomerate and then spun off to the private sector for an outrageous amount of money are entirely false and should not be trusted. Likewise, no weekly publication in the Bunker was ever hijacked by traitors - repeatedly - as an instrument to achieve their own nefarious ends. Lastly, slander perpetrated against our most trusted and highly regarded citizens - those with an Alpha clearance - will not be tolerated. How exactly you came to possess knowledge of Today's Edition and where it might once have allegedly been published is surely one of the topics your interrogator will be fond of discussing with you. Why you would wish to spend your time passing on dangerous rumors and gossip is another. On that note, please be prepared to draw up a list of your fellow conspirators and which recent acts of sabotage, subterfuge, and calumny can be attributed to them.Thank you for your cooperation.

    Sacred Wind: The Appendices

      Andy Coffey
     Sacred Wind: The Appendices

For those who wish to know more about some of the history of Sacred Wind world, this book of appendices includes: Appendix 1 – A Quick Guide to Quantum Computing, Appendix 2 – The Bi-Millennial Deity Conference, Appendix 3 – The Frothy Ale Tsunami of ‘87, and Appendix 4 – History of the Cestrian Music Tournament.May Odin bless your wind for reading...‘Sometimes there are tales that must be told, songs that must be sung, and farts that must be farted. And sometimes the spirit of these great adventures, heroic deeds, songs of glory, and flatulent blessings is powerful enough to touch the hearts, ears and nostrils of the Gods. And so it is with Sacred Wind.Certainly I know that I, King Beef Vindaloo-Boiled Rice III, puff my rice with pride and thicken my sauce when I recount the adventures of the Companionship of Wind. How a stranger from beyond distance and beyond time (a lad called Aiden Peersey, from your reality) joined Sacred Wind in their quest to win the Cestrian Music Tournament, to save the faerie queen, to win freedom for our land, to be able to fart freely, and to win the right to their cheese. It is the stuff of legend. And sometimes the Gods decree that such legends need to be manifest in the entire Multiverse… although not necessarily the smells. However, even though this most splendid tale has been told in the marvellous Sacred Wind books 1, 2 & 3, there are other tales that need telling. And so a series of historical appendices has been commissioned by none other than Odin himself. You have here the first four of these enlightening pieces of literature, with more to follow. So read with pride, my friends… and if you feel the need to have a small fart at any time, know that it will cause pleasure to many.May your rice be forever fluffy, may your poppadoms be crisp, may your curry be hot, and may Odin bless your wind.King Beef Vindaloo-Boiled Rice III.’

    Doppler

      Erlend Loe
     Doppler

A bestseller in Scandinavia -- Doppler is the enchanting, subversive, and very unusual story about one man and his moose. This beguiling modern fable tells the story of a man who, after the death of his father, abandons his home, his family, his career, and the trappings of civilization for a makeshift tent in the woods where he adopts a moose-calf named Bongo. Or is it Bongo who adopts him? Together they devote themselves, with some surprising results, to the art of carefree living. Hilarious, touching, and poignant in equal measure -- you will read it with tear-stained cheeks and sore sides -- Doppler is also a deeply subversive novel and a strong criticism of modern consumer culture.

Horton Halfpott; Or, the Fiendish Mystery of Smugwick Manor; Or, the Loosening of M’Lady Luggertuck’s Corset

Tom Angleberger's latest, loopiest middle-grade novel begins when M'Lady Luggertuck loosens her corset (it's never been loosened before!), thereby setting off a chain of events in which all the strict rules of Smugwick Manor are abandoned. When, as a result of "the Loosening," the precious family heirloom, the Luggertuck Lump (quite literally a lump), goes missing, the Luggertucks look for someone to blame. Is it Horton Halfpott, the good-natured but lowly kitchen boy who can't tell a lie? Or one of the many colorful cast members in this silly romp of a mystery.

     The Cat Sitter

When his eccentric, cat-loving aunt decides to go out of town for the weekend, she asks her nephew to watch her cat. He's not an animal lover and he especially doesn't like cats. He's also convinced that Bruno the cat does not like him either. As can be predicted, things do not go well for the pair during their weekend together. I got the idea for this story while looking at a website that was advertising job postings. I saw an ad for a 'cat sitter'. I love cats so the main character is not me at all. I thought that it would make for a humourous story to pair someone who doesn't like cats with a cat who was spoiled by his owner for a weekend. There is a little bit of heart and humour but I've tried to stay away from a clichéd happy ending. . For those of us who love cats, this story will just reinforce why we think they're so wonderful and intelligent. And for those who think that cat's are devious little beings, well, you may be right as well.
