    The Dark Side of Heaven

    Prev Next

They seem to believe me. I think they do, anyway. Either that or they just don’t care as long as I’m happy and not hurting anyone. Someday I’ll tell them the truth. Someday I’ll sit Tuyen and Gia down and tell them all about Tommy, and Henrik, and Huong, and the little one-eyed boy my son had been named after. I’ll tell them all about Tartarus, the fortress on the edge of Hell, and the Lost Patrol, and the Ice Angels of Glazier Lake. I’ll tell them about the Archangel Michael and what the Gates of Heaven look like. I’ll tell them everything.

But I can’t do it right now. Not yet, until I find my proof.

Until then, I’ll have to let them keep on thinking I’m looking for lost treasure and other shiny mementos of a war that should never have happened. Seriously; what choice do I have? What would you do? It’s a lot easier to say you’re hunting around for gold and silver, right? I mean, how do I even begin to tell them that what I’m really looking for down there in the dark…is rainbows?
