“Harriet? Any suggestions?” Tan!Shallegh asked, clearly taking the Admiral’s comment as agreement.
“Why ask me?” she replied.
“Because you are going to be responsible for this new project’s physical security,” he told her. “You will command the guard detachment we’re going to hide in Jupiter, and run the convoy escorts that will make certain everything arrives safely.
“The Imperium, after all, must have its tentacles deep in these waters for this plan to work.”
“I see.”
Tanaka looked around the room, meeting Annette’s gaze and sharing a nod.
“We will make our Duchy and our Imperium great, I see,” she said softly. “For us. For our children.”
Tanaka was a mother, with two children left behind on Earth with her husband. A posting to defend the research facility would let her actually spend time with them—and her words sent Annette’s hands to her own stomach. Soon, she would have heirs—and protecting the Duchy’s future had never seemed so important.
“I think there’s only one name left we can use without it seeming unworthy of the cause,” Tanaka continued. “I suggest we call this new project DragonWorks.”
