Praying Mantis
There’s a guy named Mark
A very righteous man
Goes to church every Sunday
Morning and night
Wednesday night
Attends the bible study
Prayer meeting
And all the fellowship
But when he goes home
He drops the King James
And becomes himself
His habits are those
He speaks out against
Every Sunday
And Mark allows them
To assume he’s pious
He always wears his Sunday best
Not a wrinkle
Spot or a stain
Of his character show through
This grand façade
Of this preying mantis
Then one Sunday night
Discovers the hoax
Of Mark’s righteousness
Jeff reveals to Mark
All his hidden sins
Now three years later
Mark’s testimony is
“I was a fake to all of you
I wore a mask
You never saw
Now it’s off and you see me
And not my lies
It can happen to you”
“I hid all my sins
From myself so long
That I was convinced
The sin was all gone
Then someone told me
I was a fake
I was a preying mantis
I appeared righteous
But I was far gone
Now I know Jesus
And He let me pray to Him
And help me to stop preying on pride
And now I’m a praying mantis
With no deceit just love for Christ.”

Nearly the end
Hesitating
To tell your wife
“The truth is out!”
You lie at the funeral home,
Even though you never went home.
Always loyal; you hid the truth
Inside the old telephone booth.
Your friends all ask “How? How can this be?
For we never told, told it to he.”
“How could he read
The forbidden book of the truth?
What could he need
That made him forget our proof?”
His wife came by
Screaming at us.
“When you all die
Where will you be?”
