Alec and Florrie haven’t always been my favorite characters, but that’s because they both make me really angry. Sometimes, those are the best characters in a book, because they really make you feel these terrible emotions. So, while you read this book, you’re going to have to decide. Are you Team Alec or Team Florrie? They’ll both anger you, but in the end, you have to choose a side.

      CHAPTER ONE

      Alec

“Say it again,” I whispered in her ear as I pinned her against the wall.

She shook her head slightly, but her breathing picked up. I could feel her heat against my hand as I slid it inside her panties. She was soaked for me.

“Tell me or I won’t give you what you want.”

I could feel her frustration building. She didn’t want to give in, but then again, she never had. She always fought me every step of the way on everything. Her breath huffed out and I could practically feel her rolling her eyes.

“I want your cock,” she ground out.

“That’s not what I want to hear and you know it.”

“Ugh, would you just give it to me?” she groaned. “You know I do, so stop messing with me.”

“Not until you say it,” I whispered again, nipping at her ear. I slid my fingers into her pussy and slowly pumped in and out. She wouldn’t be able to hold out too much longer. I stroked my thumb across her clit and pulled her closer as she shivered against me.

      “You’re not playing fair.”

“I know exactly what I’m doing, Florrie. Stop fucking around.”

I pumped my fingers harder inside her, drawing her closer to her orgasm, but not letting her unleash it. That was all for me, but only if she gave me what I wanted.

      “I fucking love you, alright!”

I grinned and nipped at her neck, licking up to her ear and drawing the delicate lobe into my mouth. “That was exactly what I wanted.”

I strummed my thumb over her clit until she was trembling and panting. Her breasts were heaving against the wall and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. Just a little more….

      Her thi
ghs clenched together around my hand and she tossed her head back, resting on my shoulder as her orgasm washed over her. Her moans were drowned out when I covered her mouth with mine and slid my tongue inside. I kissed her long and hard, needing to taste every inch of her, and I was even more excited at the thought of going down on her and tasting that sweet pussy juice. I spun her around and kissed her harder, palming her tit in my hand.

      “Marry me.”

      “Fuck me,” she panted.

I shook my head, twisting her nipple between my fingers. “Not until you say you’ll marry me.”

“Ugh, just give me what I want,” she cried.

“Say you’ll marry me and I will.”

      “Fine, I’ll fucking marry you!”

I grinned and kissed her hard. I had her right where I wanted her. “That’s right. You will.”

      “Would you fuck me now?”

“You know I will,” I said, shoving her pants down her legs. She got to work on my belt, yanking at it until it was loose. She lowered the zipper and had just started shoving my pants down when there was a banging on the bedroom door.

“Florrie!” Reid shouted. “Come on, it’s time to train!”

I shook my head, pushing her back against the wall when she tried to move. “No.”

“Alec, I have to go. I can’t stay here and fuck you while Reid is out there waiting on me,” she whisper-hissed.

“This is the third time this week,” I growled.

“Well, that’s part of having a kid,” she said with a grin, like I didn’t already know that. She kissed my lips slow and long and then ducked under my arm. “Tonight.”

She said it like it was a promise, but that did jack shit for me when I was hard and needing to be inside my woman. She bit her lip and waved to me as she cleaned herself up quickly. She was out the door before I could even suggest a blowjob. I leaned my head against the wall and reached down to fist my cock. I tried to imagine Florrie on her knees, sucking me into her mouth, but it was no use. I needed her, not an image of her.

      CHAPTER TWO

      Reid

      One year ago…

“This has the potential to give us everything we want. We could have control over everything, but we need to move on this.”

“It also has the potential to destroy you. I’m not going in on this with you,” George, my step-father said to the man standing in his office.

“But I already told the others that you were in.”

      “That was your mistake.”

I peeked around the door, trying to figure out who the man was. His voice was familiar, but I couldn’t place it. From the back, all I could see was his graying hair and his fat stomach.

“I can’t just go back to them now and tell them you’re out. You know too much.”

“Is that a threat?” George asked, standing up tall. The man in front of him shrank back, backing up against a chair. “Because you came to me. I didn’t ask you to tell me about your plans. But now that I know, you can bet I’m going to hang onto this information.”

“No!” The man shouted as George walked over to his safe. “I’ll make it work.”

“I know you will.” George opened his wall safe and slipped the information inside. “I have more leverage on you than I ever thought possible, and believe me, I won’t hesitate to use it if I feel you’re going to double cross me.”

I knew he had other information on the senators. This wasn’t the first meeting that I had seen where George collected information and then threatened whoever was visiting him. In fact, it seemed to be a regular occurrence. I couldn’t figure out why people kept coming to see him when he never helped anyone but himself.

      “George, let’s talk about this-”

“There’s nothing to talk about. You go ahead with your plans and I’ll be there to clean up the pieces when it fails.”

“I’m telling you, this time it won’t fail. Everything’s in place. The lab is already working on everything. A year and a half, that’s all it’ll take to get everything in place. We have everything in the works and this time we’ll get what we want.”

“I’m sure everything will run as you say,” George said, “and I’ll be waiting for that time to cash in on a few favors.”

The meeting seemed to be coming to a close, so I started to back away from the door, but I tripped over my shoelaces and fell backwards. I only made a small thump, but it must have been enough to alert the senator that I was there. It got deadly quiet, and then I heard the dreaded footsteps as he crossed the room to where I was hiding. The door swung open and the senator stood tall, glaring down at me.

“You little shit. How many times have I told you to mind your own fucking business?”

He grabbed me by the collar of the shirt and hauled me up to my feet. The rage on his face had me shaking where I stood. I knew what was coming, and there was no stopping it. Still, I couldn’t help the pleas that fell from my mouth.

“Please, I didn’t do anything. I was just walking-”

“Shut the fuck up! Do you really think I’m that stupid, you little shit head? I should have never married your mother. I should have known that you were a worthless piece of shit.”

Tears pricked my eyes even though this was nothing new to my ears. The senator always said things like this to me. He had made it very clear soon after he married my mom that he had thought having a family would make him more popular with voters. But I had been a disappointment, and he had never been able to mold me into the son that would give him the image he wanted. Sometimes he beat me, hoping to correct my behavior. Other times he starved me. But what he was about to do, that was what I dreaded the most.

He pulled me behind him as he made his way to the basement door. I started to fight against him, knowing that if I went down there, there was no telling how long it would be before I saw my mother again. He flung the door open and pulled me toward the stairs, but I fought, pushing against him to try and break free. His fist shot out and hit me in the face. It was so hard that my head snapped to the side and smacked the doorframe.

I felt my body being dragged forward and then I was flung down the stairs. I bounced off the sharp edges, smacking my head several times as I tumbled down the stairs. But the worst was the sharp crack of my forehead against the concrete wall at the bottom of the stairs.

“We’ll give you a few days to think about what you’ve done.”

The door slammed closed at the top of the stairs, and I heard the lock slide into place. I didn’t dare move from my spot at the bottom of the stairs. The basement was my worst nightmare. I was usually down here for days at a time. Once I had been down here for two weeks because I didn’t behave the way he wanted when we were out talking to his voters. The whole basement smelled from all the times I had been down here with no bathroom. There were no windows down here, and he had taken out the lights a long time ago for times like this.

My heart thundered in my chest and sweat broke out in my armpits. I hated this place. It was creepy and the days at a time that I spent down here gave me the worst nightmares. I took deep breaths to calm down. As long as I didn’t panic, I knew I could survive my time down here. I just had to stay at the bottom of the stairs. I didn’t know what else was down here, and I didn’t want to.

When this had happened in the past, I had always wished that my mom would come get me. I would wait for hours, praying that any minute she would open the door and rescue me. It never happened. That first time was the longest of my life, and when I was finally released from my prison, I saw the reason my mom never came for me. The senator had beaten her so badly that I didn’t even recognize her face. I had run to her and apologized for getting her in trouble, but she just turned away from me and refused to look at me for the rest of the week. After that, I very rarely wished for her to come get me.

I could be thrown down here for any reason. Most of the time, I wasn’t even sure what I had done. But I was always brought up in time for my bruises to heal so the sena
tor could take me out for family photos. I always had to smile for the cameras or my next beating would be even worse. But this was his favorite form of torture.

I curled into myself and put my hands over my ears. It helped to close my eyes. That was darkness by choice. If I opened my eyes and tried to see what else was down here, I would go crazy. It was hard to not listen to every single noise that sounded down here. I could imagine all sorts of creatures waiting for me. Sometimes I thought that there was a murderer waiting down here, ready to kill me and stuff me in the walls. And no one would know. My mom wouldn’t care, and I was really sure that the senator could come up with a reason that I wasn’t around.

I passed the first hour by counting. The second hour, I started listing dinosaurs that I remembered from my dinosaur phase when I was younger, but I had forgotten a lot about them. I stayed quiet for the third hour. My head was pounding and all the thinking was only making my headache worse. By the fourth hour, I was struggling not to cry. I didn’t cry often. I had learned to hold back my emotions, especially around the senator. But here, alone in the dark, I was scared and I just wanted to go back to my room.

Days passed with no light and no food. Occasionally, a bottle of water was tossed down the stairs, but there was never any rhyme or reason as to when it happened. I was so thirsty and hungry, but I knew better than to go knock on the door and ask for something. The last time I tried that, a dead squirrel was thrown down the stairs. I never asked for anything again. The only thing I could do was wait.
