A knock on my door pulls me from my thoughts, and the door opens. He has a huge smile across his face, probably as relieved as I to get a break from this place. “You ready to go?”
“Yeah,” I say, thinking maybe I should talk to him about what Ms. Stonewall asked me to do. Then again, it’s a secret society he wouldn’t know about it.
Of course, I don’t know for sure, but either way, I’ll just keep it to myself until we get back. For now, I’m going to enjoy the next several days with Dex by my side. It’s a much-needed break.
Holding his hand out, Dex takes my bag and wraps his other arm around my shoulders. “This is going to be a fun change of scenery. I can’t wait to show you around, and my family bought a bakery not long ago. God, the treats they have in there are delicious. I can’t wait to show you,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss to the side of my head.
This break is something we both need, more than he knows. I just hope time will pass slowly and that being there isn’t something that’ll flash before our eyes.
