He smiled and the expression was reflected in his eyes, the gray eyes of the stranger who had instantly known and loved her. “Barely,” he conceded.
She drew him back toward the living room and he came willingly. Over her shoulder, she saw her mother’s portrait and it seemed Katherine was smiling directly at her. She knew what prompted that smile now.
Perfect happiness.
