    My Muse

    right now

If we don’t change direction soon

Then this ship will run aground

      The smallest grain of sand

      So difficult to see

      Holds all life’s little mysteries

Like the grains of you and me

And I know you said that you can

      Never fall in love again

But I hope that isn’t true

Because I’m standing here for you

And all I ever want to be

Is the exception to the rule

      We Can Move Mountains

There’s a cross that we must bear

      That’s a lesson I have learned

But we can bear that cross together

      Or so I’ve been told

And we will travel this world

      Leaving no stone unturned

And we will carry each other

Down that long and winding road

I’ve walked a mile in your shoes

      And you’ve been in mine

      And we’ve walked over beaches

      Crossed the sands of time

      But we step over dollars

      To pick up the dimes

And we’ve taken the long way home

But we’re finally back where we belong

With just a mustard seed of faith

      We can move mountains

If I had half the faith of Bernadette

      I could change the world

      We’ve got to have faith

      Faith in one another

And we shall gather at the river

      With our flags unfurled

Now you’ve got to go your own way

      And I’m going mine

But our paths will cross again

      Time after time

And I shall take you in my arms

      And sing you this song

And it will be just like

      You were never gone

      A Brighter Day

If the sun should rise tomorrow

And you don’t know where to turn

      Be grateful for the sunlight

      And the images it’s burned

If the night should fall tomorrow

      Before you fall asleep

And you need someone to talk to

Know that you can count on me

      Hear my testimony

      Hear my solemn vow

God has never spoken to me

But he’s singing through me now

I needed someone to believe in

      But what I couldn’t see

Was the someone that I needed

      Was lost inside of me

      Now I’ve found

      Another way

I know I’m going to make it through

      Another day

      And I’ve found

      The most beautiful light

All it took for me to see it

Was to simply close my eyes

So if the sun should rise tomorrow

And you don’t know where you stand

      Come and stand beside me

      I will take your hand

But if you need someone to guide you

Because you think you’ve lost your way

Then you need to look inside you

I promise you will find a brighter day

      Columbus Day

I am counting my blessings on this great day

      This nearly forgotten holiday

      This Founder’s Day

As I travel this vast expanse of blacktop

I see the faces of these fine people

These citizens of the most charitable land on earth

These proud people who are not afraid to help

The other countries of the world who would not think to offer

One minute of their time when our times are hard

      And we would not ask

But will pull together as one

I would not hesitate to help a brother in need

As I know that he would do the same for me

And as the majestic Douglass fir trees tower above

On my left and on my right

I am grateful for my family

Who risked their lives to board the Mayflower

So that I might have a better life

And for the soldier who kept us free

That I may work and provide

Or take my chances and travel

Hit the road or sail the seas

      And return the favor

      So that my children

      May have the same opportunities

      This Man

      I am but a man

But this man was a God

This man stood upright in all his undertakings

And blazed a path for me to follow

Will he return in my lifetime?

      I think not

But when we meet face to face

This man will greet me as a brother

And defend my misgivings as though they were his own

We all have our crosses to bear

But this man would bear them all

      Yours and mine

Just for you to have the opportunity

      To live in the light

      We all must sacrifice

But this man made the greatest sacrifice of all

This man taught us how to live

      And to love our neighbor

This man opened his arms and embraced the world

      And his flesh was pierced

So that I may be free

      Sins of the Child

Nancy was a loner all her life

She didn’t take no shit from anyone

Paranoid, but she refused to hide

She’d stand straight with her razor and her gun

Now the sins of the mother

      Are visited on the child

I don’t know who I can or cannot trust

      Will it take another

      Sacrifice to tame this wild

Passion building, and pounding in my chest?

      My father died

      On the roadside all alone

Struck down in his prime when I was eight

      He searched wide

      For comfort and a home

Taken before his time, now it’s too late

Because the sins of the father

      Are visited on his son

I watch the sun go down across the sea

      I take a drink

      And face the world alone

Because nothing left to lose, can set you free

      If I Was Your Man

I’m not as drink as you thunk I am

I just want you to come here and save me

And I might let you see inside this man

      But I’m nobody’s baby

And I know that you know how I feel

Because you never let no one inside

But if you relent and let me get inside you

You’ll know you have nothing to hide

I’m not as feel as you scared I am

You have no reason to be afraid

I just want for you to understand

I know that you feel the same way

Because there’s no one who’s seen my face

      Or lived this same life

The way that I feel that you do

And there’s no one who can take my place

      Or make this sacrifice

As I’m standing here for you

And I know you feel it too

I know that you know that it’s true

I’m not as know as you strong I am

But if you’d take me by my hand

Then I know I could show you how wrong I am

I could stay if I was your man

I would stay if I was your man
