I think I might have been a teacher. My mother was and I considered it but things didn’t go to plan, as they say. I left school early to work for my father as a hairdresser. It was a mistake but I reached where I wanted to be eventually.
What are you writing about next?
At the moment I’m busily weaving another series about orphans – but this time it is a much earlier period, when they were usually sent to the workhouse if their parents could not feed them. And what a terrible experience that was for parents and children. I’m enjoying all the terrible situations I can put my poor little children through, but don’t worry, I shan’t let them die or starve unless the plot demands it, and I use my books to punish the evil ones. Just wish I could do it in real life too!

Cathy Sharp is happily married and lives with her husband in a small Cambridgeshire village. They like visiting Spain together and enjoy the benefits of sunshine and pleasant walks, while at home they love their garden and visiting the Norfolk seaside.
