She sighed, and in a huffy voice said, “Fine. What’s the plan?”
He crossed his arms. “No.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“I’m asking the woman I love to spend the rest of her life with me. It’s a private matter.”
And, shockingly, no lightning bolt struck him. No disco lights blinded him. In fact, nothing at all happened.
And then the supreme leader of all witches smiled. “Consider your sentence commuted.” And she vanished with no fanfare at all.
Jackson stopped and took a breath. Then he picked up the ring box, checked the ring was still snugly tucked inside, and placed the box inside his coat pocket.
He was more than ready, and the woman he loved was waiting.

About Cate Lawley
Cate writes and lives in Austin, Texas, (where many of her stories take place) with her pack of pointers and hounds. Cate has worked as an attorney, a manager, a tractor sales person, and a dog trainer, but writing is the hands-down winner. When she’s not tapping away at her keyboard or in deep contemplation of her next fanciful writing project, she’s sweeping up hairy dust bunnies and watching British mysteries.
Cate also writes paranormal (Lost Library) & urban fantasy (Spirelli) as Kate Baray and thrillers (Beauregard) as K.D. Baray. Visit her website for more information: http://www.katebaray.com/
