Finally, where there is historical fact, I have used it as a framework for this novel. However, as I am writing historical fiction I invent as well, fill in the white spaces, and hopefully animate historical personalities. Thank you for reading The Silken Rose. Without readers, this historical novel would never see the light of day. I thoroughly enjoyed my time living with my characters, real and invented, and enthusiastically researching and writing about their lives, both real and imagined. I hope you have enjoyed reading their stories.
If you are interested in further reading here are a few titles I recommend:
The Illustrated Chronicles of Matthew Paris, translated, edited and with an introduction by Richard Vaughan, Alan Sutton Publishing.
Henry III, The Great King England Never Knew it Had, Darren Baker, The History Press
Eleanor of Provence, Margaret Howell, Blackwell Publishers
Henry III, Matthew Lewis, Amberley Press
Four Queens, Nancy Goldstone, Phoenix Press
The Subversive Stitch, Rozsika Parker, I.B. Tauris & Co Ltd.
Taste, Kate Colquhoun, Bloomsbury
Many, many other books and chronicles informed this story. However, in particular I enjoyed the above, especially Taste as I love recipes and information about cooking in the past.
