The last thing I took out was the creased and battered photo of Brian and myself. The same one I'd taken from his old house when I thought he was gone, fallen victim to the Black Tide. This I stuck to the mirror on the dresser. Now I'd be able to torture myself with longing every time I saw the damn thing.
Still, I couldn't help myself. I held onto the hope that somewhere out there, Brian was alive. Alive and well, and on his way here.
