      Contents

      Every cloud’s a dream

      When yesterday keeps calling

      Ode to the blue mountains

      What’s a little hope

      The piper of joy

      Wings of gold

Give to me a little smile

      Emptiness

      Duality

      Alstonia

      Upon the paths you tread

      Awaiting the nor’wester

Meet you again on a cloudy day

      Realization

      Rain in the mountains

      On a rainy sunday morn

      Listening to the road

      A child’s dream

      Uncertainty

      Truth

      And yet I silent wait

      Yesterday

      Lights in the shadows

      Conversation with the Almighty

      Street lights

      Lost

      Questions

An elf, a fairy, a dragon and me

You might have told me once

      At the end of night

Every day is an empty page

      The shepherd and the swan

      A teardrop

      Tears

One day in the times ahead

      Sudden thunder

      When Sam crossed the scarecrow

      Hope

Lines written on an autumn day

      First rains

      About the writer

      Every cloud’s a dream

Upon the blue seas of the sky

      Every cloud you see,

Is a little dream that someone had,

      Just like you and me

For every time a dreamer brave

      Hopes with little doubt,

He paints a part in the canvas sky -

      A future in a cloud

And thus the clouds sail patiently

      Upon their playground vast,

      Waiting silent for their dreams

To come to life at last

But not for once should we ever think

They leave our sides at all,

      Watching every day our faith,

And how we rise or fall

For people change and grow up fast

      Their hopes, they waver too

And once they give up, melts away

      Their clouds into the blue

But there are those with heartfelt tears

Who in spite of all the pain,

Carry on for the rainbow joy,

      They hope after the rain

For them, the sunset sky adorns

      Their clouds in brightest hue,

      Whispering in their golden hearts:

      ‘Tomorrow waits for you’

      When yesterday keeps calling

      When yesterday keeps calling,

      More often than we care,

Perhaps somewhere it’s wedged in grief

      More than it could share;

And hence the tears from long ago,

      Spill into now, today,

No matter how far we walk ahead

      We hear those echoes play.

But the fault, it lies in our feeble hearts

      That can’t accept what’s dead,

In the wistfulness of happier times,

We cling to the pains instead.

      How long before immature minds

Will get the truth to see,

That yesterday’s like a caged bird,

It’s time we set it free…

      Ode to the blue mountains

Sing for me to the mountains blue

That lie yonder in your land,

Sing for me yet one more song

To them mountains, old and grand

For deep within the bushland trails,

I’ve walked so many a day,

That in that gaze and in that sun,

      I gave my heart away

And all the love I ever gave,

The hills, they gave me more,

(Hence, so far am I, yet winds bring back

      Memories from that shore)

And in those falls and trees and skies,

And all the world I knew,

I have sung my song of joy and pain

      Therein the days I grew

And if you ever find that love

For your mountains far and blue,

You’ll hear an echo, deep somewhere

      Of someone just like you

Then sing for me to the mountains blue

That lie yonder in your land,

Yes, sing for me yet one more song

To them mountains, old and grand…

      What’s a little hope

No strength I seek to cross the seas,

No angel wings to sail the breeze,

No godly gift for a golden deed,

A little hope is all I need

“What’s a little hope?” the night may doubt

When a drop of tear whispers out,

To look at stars with bleary eyes

And know somehow, the sun will rise…

      The piper of joy

In darkness glum, I’d lost my way,

When a piper met me one fine day,

And played a song of what a hue -

That woke me up in life anew!

I asked enthused, “Teach me the song!”

When he merrily said and moved along,

“Keep that smile upon your face -

You’ll learn it all from your joyous days”

So, thence I wore that happy smile,

Through the ups and downs in life for miles,

How else would I ever get to sing-

The song that Life alone could bring?

And often though were cloudy skies

I had to wear my smiling guise,

But each day taught me one new note

To walk on forth and stay afloat

After months of walking hard and long,

I felt one day I’d learnt that song,

But I knew I needed it no more –

For I had learnt a lot in the days before

I now could smile through all my pains,

Which gave me hope to rise again,

(For thorns will always deck your way –

But you must move on everyday)

I thanked the piper ‘gain, in turn

For all that he had made me learn –

What of the song? Wont that you ask?

Well, it had to serve me one more task

For while I sprinted on my way

I found a soul in gloom one day,

And I had to give what came to me

So I sang again to set him free…

      Wings of gold

Grant me a pair of golden wings

      To help me fly away:

That in unknown lands where you get lost,

You find me wait your way

Grant me a pair of golden wings

That in this world so wide:

A single time you think of me

You’d find me by your side

And grant me wings of magical hope

    &
nbsp; Back in time to sail,

To help you smile and wipe your tears

In all the times you failed

But mortals frail that we all are

Where do I find such wings?

To which I hear your mature song

That the wind from faraway brings:

‘What need of wings that never are?

Let’s love the world as is,

Let memories be the hope I seek,

Your smile the source of bliss’

‘And every time I fall in doubt,

Which way in life to choose

That you’d trust my every move

      Is proof I’ll never lose’

‘That you would sail the seven seas

      Every time I cried

Is strength enough for me to know

You are always by my side…’

Give to me a little smile

Give to me a little smile, to chase my clouds away,

Oh grant me your little smile to ring a sunny day.

For in that smile, I find your joy, to gently kiss my heart,

Urging me to look ahead – there’s always another start

But so far is your wonder smile, wherever would I seek?

Why are you so far away? Won’t my world turn bleak?

And then I strangely hear your words, singing soft in glee,

To close my eyes and look within, to find your smile in me…

      Emptiness

I see resentment in the eyes of the sun,

      And disappointment in the horizon

The clouds, though late come sullenly

And simply ask, what have I done?

The painter me while coming here,

Had lost his painting brush somewhere,

And now, under the twilight sky,

I lose that self without a care

      And someday, not so consciously,

I’ll be someone not meant to be,

Like many others who lose their way

Or pretend that they are carefree

And even if the Fates someday,

Drop a canvas-brush upon my way

      I won’t understand the mockery

      Oblivious – I will move away…

      Duality

      How sad am I,

      That my garden primroses,

      Have withered and said goodbye,

      How glad my primroses,

That I sit and mournful sigh…

      Alstonia

These are but flowers no more,

      Upon a dusky autumn glow,

      They are sweet floating memories

Of time that used to flow

Clusters of flowers, no more –

      Each bud a yesterday,

Or another year of deciduous love

      That came and went away

Ah! This sweet incense of life,

Why does it pain me so?

Perhaps, I inhale a different world

Where no longer can I go

Dearest blossoms - You bring forth tears

But please never fail to bloom –

For the absence of your memories

      Will cry out deeper gloom

And thus I smile, for in this fall:

The buds I see above -

They bring back days that never
