‘And I wouldn’t have been bewitched.’ He smiled and toasted her with his wine glass before draining the contents.
Carol picked up the bottle. She gestured for him to give her his glass for refilling, but he shook his head.
‘I’d better say no. It would look extremely bad if I got breathalysed tonight, having been drinking with a police officer.’
‘That’s true enough,’ Carol acknowledged. She filled his glass. ‘However, the golden rule in traffic division is that they only breathalyse people who are driving cars. I feel sure the effects of the wine will have worn off before morning, don’t you, Richard?’
