Bermuda Triangle in Indian Myth
The bermuda triangle which is hypothesised to be in the form of a perfect triangle connecting Florida, bermuda and puerto rico has a lot of mystery associated with it.Interestingly, there is a mention of something very much similar to this Bermuda triangle in the vedic mythology which might explain all the disappearing to some extent. It is the city of tripura, built by the famous demon architect mayasura. That's right folks, mayasura - does that ring a bell? The mayans who were aboriginal to the north american country might have derived the name after mayasura. What are the odds?
Mayasura was a great devotee of lord shiva. He did a great penance and was given a boon to construct a city which was very difficult to destroy. Tripura consisted of three cities, each one on earth, sky and the heaven. This was supposed to be a utopia for the demons. Yet it was destroyed by tripurantaka, thanks to the nature of demons. It is another interesting observation that the kind of sea shells available in florida is unique in the whole world. Sea shells have significance connected with lord shiva in vedic faith and are used for worship.
Eventually when the city was being destroyed by the mighty tripurantaka, mayasura was informed about the proceedings and he eventually went to patala, the underworld. He also designed the royal assembly for the pandavas during the dwapara yuga, i.e, around 5100 odd years ago, as per the instructions of lord krishna.
Silent
Just a few months ago, this same man was very troubled in his mind. His animal instincts had made him a hypocrite and had pushed him to a hell hole. He was surrounded by enemies, their hearts filled with wrath. He had fallen repeatedly to the depths of sensuality and suffered like a lion being caged. He couldn't break the invisible shackles of fate around him. One day while in the living room, suffering the continuous flow of agony in the form of doubt and anxiety, he glanced at the big picture of a young teacher surrounded by ardent students. He got up and went near it, for the first time to look at it carefully. There it was, written in Sanskrit - "The teacher is young and is surrounded by the disciples who are old. They all learn from the teacher, who is silent". He wondered. He enquired about this with his father and asked if he could explain to him what it means clearly. His father told him " Ask your mother about the same, since she is very good at explaining these things. By the way, get a haircut. You neither work nor study, at least keep yourself clean". He asked his mother next. She gave him a book and told "This is a very old book explaining about this verse, which my father gave me and this was his favourite book. Do study it with a lot of respect".
Honouring the words of his mother, he studied the book with utmost respect. Sometimes, he would skip a few chapters and sometimes he would re-read the same. What seemed to be insignificant at times, made more sense after. He finished the whole book, but admitted that, he had learnt only little. He was astonished how a small book had so much to think about. As time passed by, the book seemed to have made him suffer with asperger's syndrome. His interests were narrow and he considered debating about a movie or a game or gadgets as reaching the heights of nonsense. But that mode was temporary and he became more active again. These changes kept happening and finally it seemed he had reached the shore of peacefulness. He seemed normal and had an accurately predictable lifestyle. Peace time baby.
He said "With pleasure. It is about 'Mouna' - that is silence, silence in mind".
His father said "Oh, you must be adept in that".
He said " A silent mind need not be lazy or dumb. It signifies contentment, fulfillment, endurance and indifference".
His father said nothing. But he could notice a twitch on his face.
