The Fountain of Eden: A Myth of Birth, Death, and Beer

      Dan H Kind
$value['title']

Mythical mayhem transpires in a Virginia tourist town when a beer brewed with the Water of Life hits the streets. It's not so bad getting yourself blown up eight times a day for the slack-jawed tourists, at least to Jack Whiskey's thinking. He's lived in Eden, Virginia, his whole life, and colonial reenactment is all he knows. Being the town "alchemist" is what he does. Well, that and drink beer at the Olde Eden Taphouse...But Jack's dreamy life is upended when he discovers that fictional characters and beings straight out of world mythology roam the streets of Eden. Plus, there's a gang of American Indian Tricksters running around distributing a beer brewed with the Water of Life to every bar and corner store within city limits. The gods are never happy when people start attaining Eternal Life like it's every nobody's business (it always ends badly, usually for the people). Soon enough, the Cosmic Dancer will take notice and two-step existence right on out of existence to pave the way for a new, er, existence. But the residents of Eden aren't going down without a brawl. And with the (oftentimes questionable) help of mind-wielding Buddhist monks, mythological beings, and characters straight out of the classics, Jack embarks on a romp across mythical worlds—and must descend to the ancient Greek Underworld—to prevent the stomping out of the universe. And along the way discovers that he may have more in common with those Tricksters than he ever imagined possible.

    Please Pass the Podium

      Johnny American
$value['title']

Johnny American weighs in on Crooked Politicians, Generational Welfare Recipients, Illegal Immigrants, School Systems, Taxes and much more. We're wasting money and driving our country into poverty. Stop it! That's my money you're giving away! Those are my grandkids you're ruining. Time for the working man to have his say! Please Pass the Podium. I’m turning 65 years old this month, and I’ve been silent for most of my life. Silent in the fact that I’ve watched America grow into the greatest country in the world, then begin a slow decline that’s now nose-down and turning into a spiral of out-of control government spending and out-of-control personal behavior, a democracy where the minority rules and elected officials seem to accomplish nothing of importance. This is my chance to speak my mind and I’m going to do it. You might applaud Johnny American by the time I finish, or you might want to throw rotten tomatoes at me, but if nothing else I intend to say what I feel, and hope that I speak for those hard-working Americans who have carried this country on their backs for decades, only to watch it eroding into poverty by crooked politicians, generational welfare recipients, and just plain old stupidity and ignorance. I point fingers, but truth is, I’m just as guilty as anyone else, because I’ve allowed this to happen. But now I speak on these topics. Johnny American also weighs in on our school systems, obnoxious behavior, inattentive drivers, illegal immigrants, taxes, ADHD, banks, and even restaurant menus. These are my thoughts and opinions and I’m sure that there’ll be some things you like and some you don’t. This is not everything that’s on my mind, but this is a start. It’s my turn to speak. Please Pass the Podium is available now through the end of 2015 for zero dollars and zero cents. Thank you for listening to Johnny American.

The Center of Winter: A Novel

      Marya Hornbacher
$value['title']

At the center of winter, in Motley, Minnesota, Arnold Schiller gives in to the oppressive season that reigns outside and also to his own inner demons -- he commits suicide, leaving a devastated family in his wake. Claire Schiller, wife and mother, takes shelter from the emotional storm with her husband's parents but must ultimately emerge from her grief and help her two young children to recover. Esau, her oldest, is haunted by the same darkness that plagued his father. At twelve years old, he has already been in and out of state psychiatric hospitals, and now, with the help of his mother and sister, he must overcome the forces that drive him deep into himself. But as the youngest, perhaps it is Katie who carries the heaviest burden. A precocious six-year-old who desperately wants to help her mother hold the family together, she will have to come to terms with the memory of her father, who was at once loving and cruel. Narrated alternately by Claire, Katie, and Esau, this powerful and passionate novel explores the ways in which both children and adults experience tragic events, discover solace and hope in one another, and survive. The Center of Winter finds humor in unlikely places and evokes the north -- its people and landscape -- with warmth, sensitivity, and insight. The story of three people who, against all odds, find their way out of the center of winter, Marya Hornbacher's debut novel will leave you breathless, tearful, and ultimately inspired.

    A Delicate Balance

      Edward Albee
$value['title']

Edwards Albee's Pulitzer Prize-winning play A Delicate Balance reveals the emotional savagery of suburbia and the psychological terror of empty lives. First produced in 1966, this dark drawing room comedy may be Albee's masterpiece, as powerful in its 1996 revival as it was thirty years before. Its characters maintain a delicate balance between self-destruction and survival when a bitter 36-year-old daughter returns home to the family nest after the collapse of her fourth marriage. The much wed Julia shatters the uneasy peace of her long-married parents, Agnes and Tobias, and their permanent guest — acerbic, unpredictable, and witty alcoholic sister-in-law Claire. When two lifelong friends gate-crash this impromptu reunion, the masks of civility drop and raw feelings emerge. Filled with shades of meaning, subtleties, and whole paragraphs of brilliant dialogue, A Delicate Balance has become classic theater, a timeless mirror of the worst, and sometimes the best, aspects of modern life.

The Requiem Collection: The Book of Jubilees, More Anger Than Sorrow & Calling Babel

      Eric Black
$value['title']

For the first time, all three of Eric M. Black's novels come together to tell the complete story! The story starts with Juan Ponce de Leon. Most people know that Juan discovered North America. But very few people know that in his search for the Fountain of Youth, Juan actually found a fountain: but it was a fountain that originally came from the Garden of Eden. Once the discovery is made, Juan has to fight his nemesis, Diego Columbus, son of famed explorer Christopher Columbus. During the battle, however, Diego is mortally wounded and Juan is forced to save Diego’s life by taking him to the mythical Garden of Eden where he can be healed. A transformation happens and Juan and Diego become leaders in an ancient fight against a band of fallen angels known as the Watchers. The Watchers learn the whereabouts of the Ark of the Covenant and use the power within the Ark to take over creation. Juan and Diego lead a group of assembled warriors against the angels, their sons the Nephilim and a mysterious people known as the Elioud. Through the help of King Solomon, these warriors must seek the answers found in the Book of Jubilees to finally eliminate the threat that has faced mankind since the beginning. The story continues with the murders of Jack the Ripper. The murders are well documented but there were other murders that were not documented, and played a significant role in the altering of history. During World War I, a young officer name Adolph Hitler was just beginning to make his name. Jack is present when Hitler is unexpectedly killed during the Battle of Passchendaele by a man who shouldn’t have been there. Vincent Shakespeare is the man responsible for killing the future dictator of Nazi Germany and the death creates a shift in history, impacting the lives of countless people – some for the better and some for not. Vincent learns that he has traveled back in time against his will and is joined by Libby Williams, the President of the United States, who discovers she has taken Woodrow Wilson’s place in history. They work together to make a post-Great War world a better place but that changes when Jack murders Libby. Vincent teams up with Woodrow Wilson, the man who should have been President, to seek out Jack and end his murderous ways. Their efforts are complicated by others from Jack’s past who want to see him dead as well. More Anger than Sorrow reminds us that love can be timeless, that changing history is not without consequences and that sometimes your past can come back to kill you. The story concludes with Babel, who is a regular guy. He works hard. He loves football. He enjoys good food. And, he can start fires with his mind. He lives a normal life until his father disappears. The trail leads to the Taj Mahal in India where Babel learns that the reflecting pool of the Taj Mahal is actually a gateway to another world. Babel discovers that not only is he from that other world, but he must go there if he is to save his father. Armed with only his ability to start fires and assisted by those who want to rid their world of evil, Babel embarks on an unbelievable quest to save not only that world, but his own as well.
