“Forgive me.”
Just two simple words and they stunned her more than the declaration of love. Those words had been a shock by themselves but the asking for forgiveness? An entire new level.
He cupped her face. “I’m so sorry. Christ, Sheri, everything flashed before me when you jumped off that cliff and I saw the water take you down.”
“So, had I not, we wouldn’t be doing this?” Pain blossomed throughout her chest.
“Probably not at this speed, but yes, we would be.”
His fingers found their way beneath her top, making her crazy.
Mat put them forehead to forehead. “I swear we would.”
She believed him. He’d never been far from her mind, their time had been brief, passionate, and a connection made. One strengthened by his returning.
Pushing her lips to his, Sheri slid her hand between them, cradling his shaft. “One day at a time and let’s see how it goes.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
