“Looking forward to it, Mom,” I said, walking over and standing next to Drake. I think I actually meant it, at least a little.
We watched as my mom walked down the sidewalk, until we couldn’t see her anymore.
“I think she liked me,” smiled Drake.
“I think so, too,” I agreed.
“Feeling better?” he asked.
“I’m exhausted, but otherwise feeling much better, thanks.”
“Wait… does she not have a car?” asked Drake, realization dawning on him. “How is she going to get out of town?”
“Don’t worry about it, she has her own way of getting around,” I said. “Want to come in? Sous Chef Zoey is serving a particularly delicious bowl of cereal this morning.”
“That sounds nice,” he said, following me in. “I could use some unwind time. Your mom’s a little scary.”
