She closed her eyes, barely recognizing the power flowing
around her.
It was as if her power was not hers alone. She was
floating in sunshine and she was hot like the sun but for
some reason she could take the heat. It didn't bother her.
You're of the sun, Isabelle. She heard Kal's voice in
her head. It won't ever hurt you.
In the past, the journey had always made her dizzy
and nauseous but this time it was like walking down the
street. It seemed she had been doing it her whole life. She
landed softly on the ground and looked around. She was in
a cave and it was hot around her. Abraxas hung from his
wrists from the top of the cave. He swung back and forth
like a pendulum. Back and forth, she thought, how could
anyone survive like that?
Evidently Sebastian's favorite torture position, Kal
muttered in her brain and Isabelle realized that they were
all in her head with her, courtesy of Charma. She wasn't
alone. She had travelled through time but with Kal's love
she was never going to be alone.
Keep yourselves restrained to the present, please,
Isabelle muttered, laughing. I'm having enough trouble
concentrating with all of you in there. I don't want you
messing around in my head.
Don't worry. None of us want to see what you and

Kal do when you're alone, Leonardo muttered back.
Isabelle could hear laughter in her mind. Marina's, it was
infectious.
"Is someone there?" Abraxas called out to the room.
Isabelle remembered that he wouldn't be able to see her and
was hugely impressed by how powerful he must be to even
be aware of her presence in the cave with him. It was
funny—history had branded him a failure because he had
lost the children but he was a truly powerful Outsider the
likes of whom they might never see again.
"Hello." Isabelle smiled. "My name is Isabelle. I'm
one of the children you saved. I've traveled back in time to
speak with you."
"It's not safe here for you, Isabelle." Abraxas swung
his head towards the sound of her voice. "How is it that you
accomplished this?"
"I've had lots of help," Isabelle responded quickly.
"And it is a measure of how important this truly is that I
would risk leaving the others to come and speak with you.
Veli felt it was imperative."
"Veli? Is he okay? I've worried so much about what
has become of him," Abraxas groaned. "I've burdened him
with so much."
"I knew him a very short time and I'm sad to say
he's no longer with us but he never stopped looking for any

of us and he raised the ones he had to be wonderful, strong,
powerful people. You would be proud of him." Isabelle
hoped she had handled that correctly.
"Tell me why you crossed time to speak with me
when all I have done is fail my people over and over
again." Abraxas closed his eyes for a brief moment. "What
could I possibly do that you could possibly want?"
"Your journals," Isabelle responded. "We can't
locate two of them with some of the Great One's
prophecies. We need to see them. We need to know where
they are hidden so we know if the Darkness has them or if
they just haven't been found."
"Veli couldn't locate them? How strange. I left them
where I was sure he would find them. They are incased
within the gravestone of his wife Anahera."
Why would he think Veli would break apart his
wife's gravestone? Marina sounded incredulous.
"His wife's gravestone?" Isabelle responded,
ignoring Marina. "Where is that located?"
"In the hills where our village once was," Abraxas'
voice sounded strained. "Have you never been there?"
Abraxas sounded shocked.
looked behind her as a shiver raced through her body. "I've
never been to the village."

I have, Leonardo added. I can find the grave.
"You didn't fail us." Isabelle wanted to help the
great man who was chained to a ceiling, as her love had
briefly been. He had given so much to all of them. "I wasn't
raised with the others but I was safe and loved. I can't speak
for everyone but I am beginning to believe that whatever
else we may have endured, everyone was safe from the
Darkness. Your spell worked as it was supposed to. It hid
us. Perhaps Veli couldn't have handled all of us."
"Thank you, Isabelle. Please leave before the
Darkness returns. Have you perhaps found my daughter
yet?" Hope filled Abraxas' tone.
"No." Isabelle shook her head. "But I can promise
you we won't stop looking, ever."
With that thought, Isabelle threw herself back
through time into the circle of her new found family. She
landed in Kal's arms, immediately filled by the love in Kal's
eyes.

Chapter Nineteen
It had been two days since they had returned from
the basement where Kal had been tortured and Isabelle had
reached Abraxas through time. Kal was beginning to feel a
little stir crazy.
Isabelle had led Charma and Marina on a frantic
healing frenzy, insisting that he stay in bed and let his burns
heal. She hadn't let him touch her in two days either. He
thought he might really go mad.
Leonardo had left on a journey to retrieve Abraxas'
manuscripts, needing a break from the place where Veli
had died as much as anything else. He had been grumbling
about having to deface a gravestone as he had stomped out
the door.
Charma had begun to busy herself improving the
mansion with Dot. It seemed that they were all going to be
staying put in the mansion now that the Darkness had
struck and Charma had expressed an interest in making it
finally feel like a home. Rooms they had never used were
being opened up and decorated.
For her part, Dot had finally admitted to knowing
what was going on. She had always appreciated Charma's
efforts to take away her memories, and some of them
certainly were gone, but there had been too many strange

things over the years to not know what was happening. She
missed Veli, desperately, which was kind of weird, and had
channeled all of her energy into painting the walls.
Kal was just grateful they weren't making him
participate in the decorating.
Marina had taken it upon herself to use some of her
newly shown skills to start locating their missing brethren.
Evidently she felt that she could adapt the method she had
used to find him into a universal locater. So
far she had not
had any success but she was determined and was not going
to give up. She was particularly interested in locating
Drew. Kal would always think of him as the wolf. Kal had
never changed into a wolf, and didn't think he ever would.
He could do it, but it didn't feel like one of his legitimate
powers. He would have to force it.
They had not heard anything from the Darkness or
his two strange compatriots, who may or may not have
known what was really going on.
Kal had been dying to better secure the mansion and
was determined that he was getting out of bed today, with
or without Isabelle's blessing although he would greatly
prefer her to be on board because then he could do the other
thing that he was desperate to do.
As if hearing his thoughts, which he couldn't be
sure she hadn't, she appeared at his bedside.

"Feeling anxious?" Isabelle asked coyly. Her smile
lit up his whole world.
"Very." He pulled her down on the bed with him.
"But you could help me feel better." Kal immediately
began kissing her everywhere that wasn't covered in
clothes. The chanting began in his ears. "Hear that? The
chanters think I'm ready for action, kiddo."
"Well, how can we argue with the chanters?"
Isabelle teased him, pulling at his shirt until he threw it off
of himself. She was desperate to get her hands on him too.
She started tracing her hands up and down his well muscled
backside and kissing him hard on the mouth.
"I love you, Isabelle," he whispered in her ear. "I
know that we've been through a lot in a little amount of
time but I know what we have is forever."
"It better be or I'll take your powers back and fry
you up myself." Isabelle reached up to pull his mouth down
on top of hers again. She wanted less talking and more
action and he was happy to comply. "I think the moon
would be on my side."
He lost no time removing clothes and grabbing her
breasts with both his hands. He took her nipple in his
mouth and began to suck on it, hard. She cried out, almost
coming off the bed.
She responded in kind, reaching down to draw him

into her hand. He sucked in his breath, throbbing beneath
her fingertips. "If you keep that up, this is ending sooner
than I would like." Kal gritted his teeth.
"I want it fast, Kal. I can't wait for you any more
than you can wait for me."
Needing no further enticement he entered her hard
and fast. She cried out in absolute pleasure.
"Please, baby, faster," she groaned. "I need it and I
can't wait."
He drove into her harder and faster until they were
both lost in absolute ecstasy. Release hit them together as
they called out each other's names.
Sometime later, when she could breathe, Isabelle
lay on top of Kal, tracing his well defined abs with her
fingers.
"What are you thinking about?" She twirled a piece
of his hair in her fingers.
He just smiled.
"I could take the thought from your mind but I'm
being polite and refraining from it."
"Doing that again but this time slowly until you are
begging for release," Kal admitted easily. Isabelle laughed,
kissing him above his heart.
"You really do heal quickly," Isabelle admitted.
"I know." Kal laughed right back. "What are you

thinking about?"
"I'm thinking about how I was more alone than I
could have imagined and now thanks to fate and
prophecies, here I am with the love of my life on a deserted
island off the coast of, all places, Maine and facing danger
potentially for the rest of my life. But I never felt safer than
I do right now in your arms," Isabelle admitted.
"You will always be safe with me, kiddo. I
guarantee it." Kal rubbed her hair.
"I know." She smiled into his mouth.
* * * *
Later that day, Isabelle snuck out of the house. Kal
was sleeping soundly, having finally agreed to take a nap.
The island was quiet. It was fall but it was a warm day and
Isabelle was feeling content. She looked up at the sky,
feeling the sun's warmth on her face. She was a creature of
the sun, Kal had told her, and she believed him.
Isabelle felt Kal's hands on her shoulders a moment
before they actually touched her. She loved that they could
now communicate with each other like that. She wasn't sure
how that happened but she wasn't going to question it. They
still had a lot to learn.
Thank you, she thought, pushing her thoughts

upwards to her parents—all four of them. Thank you for life
and thank you for teaching me how to live it. We won't fail
you.
We promise, Kal concurred, speaking in her mind.

As a teenager, Rebecca would hide in her room to
read her favorite romance novels when she was supposed to
be doing her homework. She hopes, these days, that her
parents think it was worth it.
She is the mother of three adorable boys, and she is
fortunate to be married to her best friend. They live in
northern New Jersey and try not to freeze too badly during
the winter months.

paranormal and tries to use all of these elements in her
