“Going down to Florida made sense for me and Joanna,” Ellie said. “There's no way we could have possibly known that he would follow us down there.”
“I know, but it's my job to think of these things.”
“You can't think of everything,” she said, ending the words with a kiss. “Everything is all right. We got through it, and he's not going to be hurting anyone else. I know you still have a lot of work to do, but it can wait until tomorrow. Right now, I just want to spend some time with my husband and celebrate the fact that everything turned out okay for us and the people we care about. We are lucky, and tonight we should just enjoy how lucky we are. Everything else can come tomorrow.”
He returned the kiss and gave her a small smile. “All right. Tonight, I’ll just be happy. Everything else can wait.”
